About The Tennessee State Library and Archives, a division of the Department of State, makes historical records & library materials accessible to all Tennesseans. Story The Tennessee State Library and Archives is a division of the Department of State, administered by Tre Hargett, Secretary of State. The Library and Archives collects and preserves books and records of historical and legal value, with a focus on items related to Tennessee. It actively promotes library and archival development throughout the state and serves as the home of the state's Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Mission The Tennessee State Library and Archives serves Tennessee government and all its citizens by acquiring, organizing, preserving, and making accessible public and historical records and other resources; by providing funding and statewide consultation services in support of public libraries and local archives; and by offering alternative formats for reading for those Tennesseans unable to use standard print media.
