About The purpose of the Altoona Fire Department shall be to preserve life and property in the City of Altoona and surrounding communities. Story As a combination department comprised of full- and part-time individuals along with paid-on-call volunteer membership striving to provide the necessary emergency response and services which they are summoned. Dedicated paid-on-call individuals are responsible for all types of emergency responses ranging from basic to advance life support medical responses, fire investigations, suppression, rescues, and extrication.
