Story

New clients often ask me, "When did I get into this business?" When I first thought about this I thought "oh," it was the day I became licensed to buy and sell securities and was first hired as a Financial Advisor. However, upon a bit of contemplation, I thought about how often our childhood experiences reflect who we are today. Taking this into consideration, and realizing that many answers are not black and white, here is my story. When I was 11 years old I received a gift of a stock from a dear uncle. Judging by its name, "Miniature Instruments," it may have been one of the first tech stocks to hit the market. This gift certainly had a significant impact because I still remember the name of the company and can still picture the stock certificate as my uncle held it up to me in my grandmother's living room, even though it was purchased during my early childhood! However, what actually meant more to me than his gift, was on the day that I received my securities license, I receive an unexpected call from my uncle, asking me to purchase a stock position for him to add to his portfolio! This was the first security I purchased as a licensed Financial Advisor. What a wonderful and exciting surprise that was. Totally unexpected, and reflective of his childhood gift to me.

To be sure, you can never underestimate the power and influence of a kind gesture and where it might lead, even years into the future. My uncle may never have realized the degree to which he influenced my career choice, or the satisfaction I now receive when helping people meet their multi-faceted financial goals.
