My fiance orders the same thing every single time and it always comes out differently, or incorrect but the price is the same. She usually doesn't complain about it. Today she went in for lunch and they charged and extra $3.00. When she asked about it she was told that the waiter didn't know how to ring it up correctly the last time. Then she told them that every time she has ever been there she has ordered the same exact thing and has never been charged extra. All waiter said was well we put extra on there so.. but she didn't order anything extra therefore she shouldn't have had to pay extra. Dont get me wrong, the food tastes great, but we will be heading to Cancun Mexican from now on.

One star is even too much to rate.  Service was horrible.  Waited to be seated for 5 mins while they just kept walking past or other staff just stood and stared.  Once seated, we waited 12 mins before we "flagged" someone down to get us drinks. Again, as some staff walked past multiple times and others stood and talked to each other.    Then took another 5 mins to get chips and salsa. Food was not much better. They were not even that busy. Third time in a row we have had terrible service.   Three strikes and you are out.  I will be giving El Espolon or Cancun my business from now on.  Sad El Monterey,  you used to be my favorite.   You need to remember who keeps your doors open and we have other choices.

so the service as not good but I'm guessing it's because they were so busy we only saw or waiter 2 times. once to order and once with our drinks. I got the trio chimichanga and the chicken had a watery cheese on it that was salty and the chicken was salty so it was way to salty to enjoy. the only thing we liked where the chips and salsa. for it being a Mexican restaurant there was no horchata and well other then the salsa for your chips and a off market habanero sauce that was it. no green salsa or just a classic Mexican salsa. I did sample the trio and I could only tolerate a bite of each. the beans and rice were wonderful. I would definitely not go back just cause it was not something to grab my attention.
