Alright, folks, brace yourselves for my experience at this Dominican spot on Grove Street. First off, let's talk ambiance: it felt like stepping into a time warp, and not in a good way. The place desperately needed a makeover, and maybe a good scrub while they're at it. Now, onto the staff - or should I say, the lack thereof? Not a welcoming vibe in sight. It's like they were doing me a favor by taking my order. And let's not even get started on the service - slow as molasses and about as pleasant as a root canal. But wait, it gets worse. The coffee, supposedly their specialty, was an absolute disaster. The cortadito and cafe con leche tasted like they'd been brewed with dishwater. I couldn't even finish them, and that's saying something. In a nutshell: terrible coffee, terrible service, and an overall experience I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Save your taste buds and your sanity, folks - steer clear of this joint on Grove Street. No pictures of the coffee cos it was not worth it.
About the Dominican Restaurant: This Dominican restaurant left much to be desired in terms of hygiene and customer service. About the Experience: Upon entering, we were taken aback by the unhygienic practices observed, with servers eating right at the counter where they serve customers. The staff also seemed unfriendly and unwelcoming. The food presentation was disappointing, as it appeared pre-made and oily. Unfortunately, due to the poor attitude displayed by the staff, we opted not to taste the food. Despite this, I decided to try the coffee con leche with light sugar, which was decent but failed to salvage the overall experience. In summary, while the coffee was satisfactory, the unsanitary conditions and unfriendly staff significantly detracted from the dining experience. This restaurant receives a two-star rating, as improvements are needed in both hygiene and customer service to earn a higher rating. Vegetarian options: Not veggie food Dietary restrictions: Unfriendly staff might help you but they didnt for me Parking: Paid street parking hard to find Kid-friendliness: Nope Wheelchair accessibility: Not there
Just ordered from here yesterday and today. The food was fine yesterday. Now today, the bacon was missing from my order. Called to tell them and they thought my note said cheese and was only when it clearly said cheese IN eggs. Also found a hair in my food. Tried to talk to them about it and they claim the hair did not come from them. My hair is red. The hair in my food is black. Their customer service really sucks, and their food is inconsistent.
great Dominican flavored food prepared hot for takeout with exceptional serviceFood: 5/5
The food is OK but they steal tips. I ordered takeout and I was careful enough to put "0" as the tip and filled in the total. However they still added $4 as the tip. Avoid.Food: 3/5
I live in the area and I have always walked past this place and never went in. One day I decided to go in and order some food. Boy was that a mistake. After looking at the menu I decided to order a Steak in tomato sauce.As I'm ordering my food, a man at the counter proceeds to mock the way I said my order and the hostess proceeds to chuckle right in front of me. Then I am told by the staff that it would take 6 minutes that sounds reasonable I thought so I sat down and waited as I was really hungry and undeterred by the mockery that had just occurred. The food took 20 minutes to arrive. When I finally bit into the steak it was hard and tough enough to cut diamonds. The staff was rude and unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and when you walk by this place keep on walking. there are much better eateries in jersey city.
Reading the reviews I thought I was the only one! Seems very prejudice here! They do not even acknowledge your presence you have to demand attention and even then it's like you owe them something and they act like they are doing you a favor. Very rude people !!!! Food tastes average nothing specialFood: 2/5
Edit: upgraded to 5 stars because their pernil was amazing. What's more amazing is that you pay ~$10 and have enogh food for 2. The servers are also quite nice when you start chatting with them. I cant talk much about their English which I noticed in the comments because I spoke Spanish to them. But here's my 2 cents. Some people come to the US as adults and cant fully learn the language because a it is difficult, b in English different people have different accents, and knowing English doesnt guarantee you can understand every person when they talk. I'm not a native speaker so I know what I'm talking about x] c they're too busy working. Trier the sancocho soup small size: $6 and the oxtail $11 although originally we wanted to try the goat stew. Both were tasty, abundant for the price. The restaurant has some seating inside, but its narrow. There are some tables outside but since it was quite sunny we decided to sit inside. We also ordered a potato salad that both the server and I forgot about until I was done eating, so I didnt end up trying it. Wasnt charged for it. I believe they charge for cups of water but not much, it's fine by me. Edit: also tried their coffee and a sandwich for breakfast. Delicious sandwich, made to go, and coffee is strong and tasty, theyll ask you how mch sugar, I asked for 2 spoons but probably keep it at 1 ;
I ordered the oxtail stew with rice and beans for takeout. The oxtail was chewy, dry, flavorless, and absolutely disgusting. It was inedible, so I threw the dish out — what a waste. The food tasted like what I imagine dog food might taste like. I can't take this place seriously after this.Food: 1/5
Best fried pork meat ever… The seasoning is amazing, garlic and oregano flavor The fried plantain is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.Takeout: Yes
