It's been over 7 years since I took a trip to Denver with my brother and found this magical place. I will admit, Food Network led me there, but living up to the hype was just the start. I've seen some reviews say "no frills" and it's true. This is a very authentic place with amazing flavor. "Smothered" has a new meaning now. We ate there 5 times that week. I took a road trip next year with three friends and ate there again, 2 times in 3 days. I miss it every day I'm in Massachusetts and will likely travel to Denver, partly for this place. If that isn't a resounding reason to eat here I don't know what is.
Easily a top spot. The tacos are cheap, simple, and amazing. They beat out dozens of Mexican spots in the city for 1/2 the price. Everything on their menu is at least great. Only thing is I would say the rice and bean sides are a little expensive $7 total, but still good. I would go out of my way to come here.
Great solid authentic Mexican tacos. If you’re looking for it, you’ve found it. After traveling around Central America, I sure have missed the simplicity of good authentic Mexican food. This place takes the cake for being one of the best in Denver.
This restaurant was on my list of places I wanted to try in Denver. I was driving right by it at lunchtime, and I am so glad I did. This is my favorite type of location. A small, unassuming restaurant that is cranking out the best food possible. The menu is a little overwhelming at first, and the pace of the staff and the line are quick. There are many options from tacos, enchiladas, soups, burritos, and much more. I was drawn to the chile relleno burrito. What could be better than a roasted poblano chile, stuffed with cheese, fried in a light batter, and put into a burrito. The burrito is smothered in their green chile sauce, which was chile-based, not tomatillo-based. We sat at the counter because we were there during the lunch rush. This allowed us to watch the teamwork as they prepared each dish. Sitting there watching each different plate being made, I saw many other menu items I wanted to try. My wife had a chicken quesadilla and was happy with the dish. We should have ordered some of the tacos to try them, but now we have a reason to come back and revisit El Taco de Mexico.
If I lived in Denver, they would know my name at this restaurant. This was recommended by a foodie friend and rightly so. Food and atmosphere are authentic. We loved sitting at the counter and watching the cooks sing along as they cook. We ordered the chile rellano burrito and the huevos rancheros. Both delicious! If Taco Bell is your idea of Mexican, don't go here. If you want authentic, this is your place.
My friend and I were cat sitting in Boulder, Colorado and are now taking a road trip back to her hometown. We stopped in Denver, Colorado to take a view of the Capitol as well as reconnect with a great friend from Austin, Texas. Our friends that have lived in Denver for more than 30 years recommended this place, and every recommendation is worth it to their last word. Eva and Veronica were super friendly and patient with us while a large crowd of people came up behind us. Eva and Veronica took our order quickly and served our food in a reasonable amount of time despite the late lunch rush. We ordered the breakfast burrito, the chili relleno, and the tacos with cheek meat beef. All were delicious! There are vegetarian options; however, it doesn’t look like there any vegan options. The location has a nice view of the downtown area and the sky. I would highly recommend coming here and bringing your friends and fam!
This place is amazing! The burritos are literally massive and so filling. Some locals told us to get the breakfast burritos smothered with onions and salsa and we were blown away by the flavor. It was so filling and so delicious, I find myself missing it!
Insanely good! I asked the lady working to give me what she likes best and I wasn't disappointed. Authentic, delicious Mexican food. Also, it's a James Beard nominee for a reason! If you're in the area it's a must. Highly recommend. Enjoy!
This place is one of the classic spots for a reason! Awesome smothered burrito— I’ll be thinking about this one for a while. Green chili was delish and had a nice spice level. Fiancé really enjoyed her tacos too. We will be back!
My only problem is that I should have ordered more food. This Santa Fe arts district staple is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of the Denver and Aurora area. Everything is prepared with great care. No shortcuts, handmade deliciousness. I got a burrito with cabeza meat. Also, incredible salsa. Wow.
