Piano Lessons and Violin Lessons in Portland, Oregon

Story

The Eliason School of Music in Southwest Portland's Multnomah Village offers both violin and piano lessons to students of all ages. We understand that as a parent you have a choice between several studios and that not all programs are the same.

At Eliason School of Music we use a unique combination approach to learning that we call complete instruction.

This method evolved after years of experiences with portland piano and violin students who came to our program after experiences with other programs. We found these students and parents had common complaints about their previous lessons that led them to our school. Some students were allowed to play lots of pieces of music and the focus was on fun, but they were not improving because important techniques were not being taught.

Other students were not learning any pieces and had spent as long as almost two years devoted solely to exercises and musical theory. In an attempt to offer students a balanced approach to learning in our piano lessons and violin lessons, we have developed complete instruction which offers students the best of both worlds. Students are allowed to play a wide assortment of music and experience the joy of playing, while at the same time they receive all the technical tools necessary to achieve their highest play. I have two children, and they have had several piano teachers over the years. We recently switched to Chris Anderson at Eliason School of Music. Our experience has been wonderful Chris is an excellent communicator and motivator. The lessons are tailored to the interests and ability of the child. My son is excited to play again and goes to the piano to play if he is bored. I love to see his interest in music rekindled. I also love that piano practice is now something that he enjoys and that I am no longer struggling to encourage him to learn music.

I first started taking Violin lessons from Brian way back in 2004 when I was just 10 years old and he was still teaching out of his condo in SW Portland. There is a lot I could say about how fantastic a teacher Brian is, and what taking lessons from him taught me in life, but the biggest thing for me was the love I developed for classical music and the ability to 'reteach myself.' Sure I was not always the best at practicing, and eventually gave it up once I was 17, but now almost being 23 I am so thankful that Brian was able to mold my playing well enough that, with plenty of practice, I could regain my former proficiency at my childhood instrument. So glad to see the school is still doing so well, anyone who gets to take lessons from Brian really is lucky!

I have two daughters in lessons at Eliason. One is taking Piano and the other Violin. We began music lessons at Eliason about a year after we relocated to Portland. While the girls had both had group Suzuki lessons before, they had been away from it for over a year and were "rusty" to say the least. They were welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable teachers. We have been at Eliason over a year now (even through one instrument change) and we are happy to call it our musical home. I may even take lessons myself someday.

My son just turned five and has been taking piano with Renee for just over six months. I am amazed at what he has accomplished, for his age, in such a short time. She has a great way of making it fun and easygoing, but still gets a lesson across. She is always encouraging and never critical. And while he doesn't always want to practice a lot at home, he loves his lesson time with Renee!

I would highly recommend Eliason School of Music to anyone! My daughter has been taking piano and violin lessons and she absolutely loves the teachers and the lessons. Both the teachers are great. They are very experienced and really good at teaching. The violin teacher, Mr. Brian is an excellent musician as well as an excellent teacher. He really knows how to connect to the students regardless the age. His lesson is filled with fun and joy and my daughter never gets tired or bored during the lesson. It's not easy for a preschool aged girl to like a violin but Mr. Brian makes it happen. The piano teacher, Mr. Wes is a great pianist and a teacher. He is very patient and encouraging. I can see how much he loves music and enjoys teaching itself. I am so glad that I found the Eliason School of music! They also offer a family discount too, which is another plus. They also offer a free recital to motivate students. I am sure that my daughter will learn how to love music and live with music from the teachers here. The facility itself is very clean and welcoming, too. There's a cozy waiting room for parents and ample parking. Thank you Eliason!
