I was skeptical after reading a lot of negative reviews about the place but was pleasantly surprised during my visit. I needed a Power of Attorney document attested and reached the place at 9:30. They start at 10 so I checked in waited for around 40 mins. I had done my research on the documents that are needed on the embassy website - they are pretty simple and straight forward. If you follow it to a tee, there is no reason that your experience would not be smooth. The lady at the counter was pleasant and we are done in a little over an hour. So, don't be misled by the negative comments, follow the instructions on documentation, take exact amount in cash and you will be fine.

Terrible service. The guys at the front desk are terribly slow and inefficient. Waiting since 3 hours for a simple power of attorney attestation. The guy was so confused that we spent 2 hrs just explaining/clearing the confusion. Later we met his boss and he cleared the issue in seconds. But then we had to wait another hour to get the attestation done... Doesn't help the image any bit.

Very Quick. My passport was falling apart and I went here to get it fixed or get a new one. I must say the building (which once use to be beautiful) was in very bad shape. One would not expect an embassy to be so unkempt. Anyway, the lady who was helping me was good to speak to and she got my passport fixed in few minutes while I waited. I got my job done quick and I was happy.

Pretty awful experience all round. The employees don't really care for the people coming in, they just go through the motions. I did not see a single person leave the place happy. Not great ambassadors of India, really. Or maybe, the perfect ambassadors of the Indian government.

Last time I came somebody's car had broken down so nobody was working. Today their systems are down. Only reinforces the feeling people have about indian bureaucracy. Scary part is if people's attitude cannot change in the U.S. How can we expect India to change?! Actually I am scared of the converse ie hope DC is not influenced by the embassy! Reminds of trying to teach a local indian language to my daughter with the help of a nanny. At the end of the year our nanny was talking English!
