As a preface to my comments below, please note that Empire State does do decent quality work, and under the right circumstance, I'm sure they are a good company. However, my experience was less than satisfying and at several different stages, where they could have followed through professionally, they dropped the ball and then blamed me, the client. On the other hand, I as the client was clear about what needed to be done, hired the architect they recommended (for continuity, I thought) and did all the leg work with the city for getting permits and plans approved. When the business owner rebuttals my comments here, know its because they are just covering their mistakes. I have pictures, emails, and a file worth of irrefutable proof of how I was treated and how the property was treated, but they will still refuse to admit any wrong was done on their part. This is how they do business. They make mistakes and have poor business practices, but when a customer reports a mistake, they blame the customer and say they are not at fault. It is a horrible way to do business and very scary to go through as a client. These were my issues: 1.) inefficient communication and no clear contract or itemized estimate or final invoice, 2.) No foreman or head contractor on site. subcontractors who do not speak English, do not treat the property with respect, leave materials and tools out, and barely finish the job doing less than what is expected or paid for. The bare minimum requirements for the project or plan. 3.) The quality of work is good, but the effort needed to get the work done, to navigate the poor communication, and to deal with being told over and over again as a customer that you are wrong, is not worth the time. 4.) Contractors and the company do no close out any permits, so be prepared to do all your own leg work with the city. 5.) Contractor does not answer phone or field questions once issues arise because they do not want to deal with issues or want the client to either stop complaining or handle all issues themselves. 6.) Contractor did not follow plans as specified by architect and took liberty to make changes or not preform work without discussing said changes with the client. Specifics like "leveling the floor" were disregarded and never discussed only for the client to later discover the floor had never been leveled. Once client discovered plans changed, the contractor makes it seem that the client, architect, or city do not know what they are talking about. Granted, this company may have been great for some projects, and I'm sure they are very nice people, but the way they do business, the way they treat clients and the utter lack of follow through leaves me overwhelmed and exhausted. To the company, I'm sure you will rebut my comments here, and I'm sure you full heartedly believe that you are not at fault, but that is in essence the issue with doing business with you. I am writing my experience here as a matter of warning to other couples who may, like me, know little about hiring a contractor and working with them. I would not suggest that someone new to contracting hire this company. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way. I wish them the best of luck, but am sure my life would have been easier had I chosen a more professional and competent company. Even now, as I work to sell the house, I cannot close because Empire State's electrician did not close out his permit. I had been assured more than once by Empire State that the permits were closed... and they are not. Lack of communication and follow through. Now I have to work twice as hard to have the permit closed so I can sell the house and move on with my life. Lick my wounds, and hopefully never make the same mistakes again. I sure hope no one else does too now that I've written this review....

Big mistake choosing this company for my renovation project . They use subcontractors that are not fully qualified to do the work. Morons come to mind. They are liers and only care about thier bottom line. Their sub contractors not only utilized my tools without asking they have stole them. I would not recommend this company what so ever. I guess you get what you pay for.

Always a pleasure to do business with. Because they take such attention to the customer relationship It is a happy convenience for me to have a "go to" contractor which I use again and again for all of my projects.
