December 28, 1908 Engine Company 21 and Truck Company 9 were organized and placed in service at 1763 Lanier Place N.W. Engine 21 went in service with a 1907 American La France Metropolitan 700 GPM steam fire engine and a 1908 American La France 70 gallon combination chemical/hose wagon. Truck 9 was placed in service with an 1891 LaFrance/Hayes 85' aerial ladder truck.
