Great place. I have not had real southern food since I sat down at a friends kitchen table. We hit this place up on the way back to Chico from the airport. Ordered fried pork chops w/ black eyed peas & potato salad; fried fish w/ greens & rice and gravy. Coming back to have the ox tails next. I don't know what the bad reviews were about, none rang true for us. The owner was a bit quiet, but we started a conversation w/ him and he brightened right up. Wish he was closer... I would put this spot into a regular rotation!

Stopped by on a whim driving from Sacramento to Chico and WOW. Hands down the best fried ribs ever!! Portions were generous and the prices quite reasonable. The owner was very personable and helpful. This place is roadside diner's heaven.

Hubby and I love a good weekly date night, and Erma Jeans was close to home and seriously blew us away. It’s not very often that I write a rave review for any restaurant because I’m usually not thrilled….when you can cook yourself, it’s hard to be thrilled with commercial cooking. But Erma Jeans is something special, it’s home-made goodness like your Great Grandparents used to make. I had the fried fish, yams and greens…all three were amazing! The fish was seasoned well, firm, and flaked apart easily. The cornmeal batter complimented the flavor of the fish nicely, so it was not like eating deep fried batter like you get at some local places that serve fish. The yams are good old fashioned sweet yams, the kind that make a smile come to your face. They have this savory flavor that I could not pinpoint, perhaps it was maple. My greens were cooked to perfection, not mushy and limp like my grandmother used to make it (back when I used to sneak them to the dog). These greens are beautiful, cooked perfectly…not mushy or soggy like other places serve them. My husband had the Fried Shrimp Dinner with Beans-n-Rice and Green Beans. He was blown away at how good it was as well. We grabbed some red velvet cake to go! The décor of the restaurant is simple yet welcoming, it feels like having dinner in your families living room. True to Southern Soul tradition, the menu is uncomplicated and the selections are not fussy. The prices are great for the area and the serving sizes are generous (I had to take ½ my food home).

I had the shrimp basket with fries. The shrimp were spectacular! Not a lot of heavy batter. Just a light coat of batter to give it a crunch. The gentleman that served me at the table was very friendly. This place is definitely worth a try.
