An interesting historical landmark. As a tourist destination, you could definitely do worse if you're interested in the colonial history of New England. The facility is nice, the staff is helpful, and there is an informative multimedia presentation at the end, as well as a gift shop area which sells neat little trinkets and books on Ethan Allen and the 1700's era. The only downside is that, while the house is interesting - Ethan Allen didn't really live in it for too long a time. Maybe two years at most. And most of the interior is just reproduction items and not anything Ethan Allen actually owned. Still, the grounds are beautiful, and there is lots of information available at the location to make the trip worth it.

I had some time to kill between when I arrived and the rest of my party arrived at the Burlington, VT airport. I looked for something local to do. The Ethan Allen Homestead was only 20 minutes from the airport. This tour was one of the best tours that I had been on in a while. My tour guide - Bob - sat me down inside the theater/remake of a tavern in the visitor center. He gave me about 25 minutes worth of history on Ethan Allen. It was really detailed. I'm a history major and I was impressed. Then he took me over to the Ethan Allen Homestead and proceeded to go through each of the rooms and describe the items found there and how they were used during Allen's time. The building and the grounds were in impeccable shape. Bob was very knowledgeable and answered questions thoroughly. A great family outing. Nice gift shop and artifacts to view.

We unfortunately came when much of the walking trails were flooded, but still enjoyed our time and learned a little more about Vermont's past. Next time I'm sure we'll get a little more out of the trails here.

Hidden gem of a historical site. Small museum and house of Ethan Allen. Also great hiking trails in the Intervale region of Burlington.
