I really enjoyed this restaurant. We have no Ethiopian food anywhere near the Rockford area so I will have to come here when I'm in the suburbs. The service wasn't extremely fast but it was a laid back vibe and the food was very good. They have water on the table and brought extra injera without us asking. It was very reasonably priced - we shared the combo plate between 2 people and got sambussa and it was only around less than $40 before tip. Vegetarian options: They have a vegetarian section on their menu, lots of lentil options
Wow very delicious food! I’ve never had Ethiopian food before. I wish I had! I will be coming back. It’s vegetarian and vegan friendly! It wasn’t overly spicy and the flavors were familiar to what I’m used to so it felt like comfort food.Food: 5/5
Lovely service with a beautiful experience. Food was beyond flavorful and portions were very filling. Perfect for any occasion.Food: 5/5
Wanted to try this place for a long time. So glad we did. It did not disappoint. We ordered Sambussa for appetizer, Ethio Bean combo with extra Injer for main course. This was enough for 4 people. We got to try great selection of different dishes on one platter. Our favourite was the red lentils and chicken curry. Finished with coffee to round out the experience. Delicious fresh home made food and served by friendliest host.
Location, location, location. I was searching for an Ethiopian restaurant but didn’t want to travel over an hour to Chicago to find one. Ethio Beans was the only Ethiopian restaurant that isn’t clustered in the same area and serves the suburbs. I was a bit of a challenge to find, even with GPS. I know the area and have been past it multiple times without even noticing it. But it was worth the effort. The atmosphere is not exactly “date night”. It is pretty bare-bones with bright fluorescent lighting and bare tables. But the food and service are excellent. It seems to be a bit under-staffed, but the friendliness of the owner makes up for any delays once you realize she is the cook, cashier, hostess and often the server! It is a one woman show that delivers authentic Ethiopian tastes. There is also a small store attached that offers an incredible variety of Ethiopian food and crafts. We shared the sampler among the three of us. It was more than enough. I really enjoyed the beef tibs. Now that I found it, I will be returning.
We recently stopped in to get lunch. I really wanted to have some Ethiopian food as we don't have that option where we live. The staff was very welcoming and did everything they could to make our experience a good one. We ordered vegetarian dishes and tea and didn't have to wait long at all. The food was great! The service was fast and attentive. I only wish they had actual iced tea as opposed to hot tea with a bit of ice. Otherwise, it was a great lunch and if we lived closer, we would absolutely go back. High recommend.
My family and I went to Ethio Beans this past weekend and had a wonderful time. The food is great! Just like we had it growing up. The service was warm and welcoming as well. If you are looking for great food and want to avoid the drive into Chicago this is the place for you. We will definitely be back!Food: 5/5
First time trying and was very good and I don't like hot stuff and I got beef and potatoes that was really good.Food: 5/5
I love this restaurant so much! We live over 1400 miles away, but try to get here whenever we are nearby. The food is out of this world, with a great selection and spot-on seasoning. This time, we got the Veggie Combo and Tegabino Shiro. Wow! If you like a little spice, order the Tegabino Shiro. If I ever lose my mind, my husband is instructed to re-introduce this dish to me every day. The owner is a joy and very helpful. Additionally, she keeps upgrading the dining room. The attached market is great for the items you need that you can't get when you live in the middle of nowhere. We want to make these dishes at home, but we will keep coming back to see if we get anywhere close.
Love this place! We got the dinner platter, the sambusas, and the tea. Everything was delicious, flavorful and fresh! And the portions were VERY generous. It is so fun to have authentic Ethiopian food in the suburbs!
