Story

In 1930 a town ordinance established the Police Department consisting of seven officers. Today the sworn and non-sworn staff of the department number about 230 employees. For the men and women of the police department our mission hasn’t changed much since the 1930’s. Quite simply, we exist to make Fairfield safer, we always have and always will. We are committed to our mission and remain ever vigilant in our service to the residents and visitors of the Town of Fairfield. Remember though, we can’t do it alone. An informed, involved and engaged community remains the number one resource we have to help fulfill our mission.

The Fairfield Police Department currently employs 108 sworn officers, 100 authorized Special Agents, 15 Telecommunications Officers , 4 Animal Control officers, 7 Marina Guards, 6 full-time and several part-time civilian personnel. The department has three divisions; Field Services Bureau, Support Services Bureau and the Professional Standards and Public Affairs Bureau. There are also several specialized units within those divisions: Bike Patrol, Marine Patrol, Motorcycle Patrol, Emergency Services Unit, Dive Team, Traffic Crash Investigation Unit as well as D.A.R.E. and other community programs.

Mission

The Fairfield Police Department remains dedicated to maintaining a safe community and strives to achieve that mission through Professionalism, Honor and Excellence.

Fairfield police department is a joke. The head of narcotics was stealing all the narcotics and using them. This department is pathetic and don't solve any real crimes. Please read this! My girlfriend got in a minor accident no other cars involved noone injured. The police cohersed her to go to the hospital when she had no injuries. At hospital they ask her for a urine test and she says no she doesn't want one. So this makes the officer angry and he takes things into his own hands and tells the nurse to take her blood. ( Which you need consent to do) She not only didn't give consent but she didn't even know they took her blood she has no experience with hospital and thought it was a IV or something. So they found marijuana in her blood and are charging her with a DUI for marijuana. She hardly even smokes weed to be honest with you and she hadn't smoked at all that day she was on her way home from lunch with her dad when she got in accident. I can't stand how officers think they are above the law and the saddest thing about it all is know it will come down to her word and his and for some reason whatever a police officer says has to be the truth. Even though there head of narcotics was stealing all the narcotics from the evidence room and using it. Ya these people's word really means a lot. I actually was arrested for marijuana from Steve Rilling which is the officer that stole all these narcotics and I'm sure he won't see a jail cell and get a slap on the back since his dad is major of Norwalk. But I end up have the police come to my house and cohersed my mother into letting them into my room where they found the marijuana and long story short I received 3 years on probation and a felony record which has literally ruined all my dreams and hopes in life and know I'm depressed all the time I have no confidence in job interviews. These police aren't helping anyone .I don't see them doing anything good for the community. I'm sure nothing will change but this is crazy. Know my girlfriend had to pay $5,000 for a lawyer and she doesn't come from money or anything like that $5,000 is life changing money for us. And she's going to have to go throw all the court days she misses work she could easily lose her job from this. These cops are power basing , abusive, and they aren't solving any serious crimes instead they cohersed a young girl and illegal took her blood without consent and are trying to ruin her life also. I find it insane that this officer is told no and my girlfriend tries to stand up for her rights as an American and this officer can't accept that and does anything he wants to and basically tricked a nurse into committing a crime. But he will get away with it because he will deny it and say that he had consent. Ask yourself this is you said no to a urine why would you say yes to a blood test? Noone would ever do that. We need to stand up to these corrupt officers who hired a guy fresh out of rehab for using drugs to be head of the narcotics division??? This department needs to clean its self up because in my opinion and I'm pretty sure everyone else's that have dealt with these police can say they are a joke.

I am blind and had a big fight with my sister and daughter. I started walking back home and very soon after the police stopped and asked if my name was Isabel. I told them that it was and they gave me a ride home. The officers could not have been nicer to me. They will never really appreciate just how much I appreciated the ride home and the kindness that was shown to me. I was and remain very impressed with these kind officers and the care and courtesy they displayed.

I have lost all respect for the Fairfield Police Dep't. And not only that, now I fear them. My State Rep called the police saying that I was going to harm myself. On my leisurely stroll home with my dog, the police called me and asked where I was because they wanted to "talk to me." I had no idea why. I was on Black Rock Turnpike, and they were parked (TWO police vehicles) by TD Bank. They didn't want to 'talk' there because they didn't want people to think there was a bank robbery (but embarrassing me was quite alright). They wanted to talk to me in my apartment. They wanted to give me some "resources". (For what?) They wouldn't let me walk home with my dog and her stroller. I live 3 blocks away. What was I going to do
