About

We are a community credit union open to the public of Stark County, Ohio. We offer a vast amount of financial products and services to fit your lifestyle!

Story

The credit union was established on November 30, 1937 as the Hoover Employees Federal Credit Union. Thanks to progressive thinking by the Board of Directors, a community charter was obtained in 1980. This new charter opened the field of membership essentially to everyone living or employed in North Canton, Ohio. At that time, the name was changed to Hoover-Community Federal Credit Union.

After an extensive study, the Board of Directors, with guidance from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), made a decision to change the credit union’s name again in 1996. The new name became First Ohio Community Federal Credit Union. The intention was to clarify who was eligible to become a credit union member. In 2001, the charter was changed again to include anyone worshiping or attending school in North Canton.

Early in 2003, First Ohio Community Federal Credit Union applied to NCUA for an expanded field of membership. In July 2003, our credit union was awarded the approval to provide financial services to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school anywhere throughout Stark County.

Our rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are intended to benefit and protect both the Credit Union and its members. Being a Federally Chartered Credit Union, NCUA is the responsible regulator. A benefit of the federal charter is funds are insured to at least $250,000 per member through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government.

The Board of Directors, Staff, and Management of First Ohio Community Federal Credit Union would like to welcome you as a credit union member.

I got my auto loan through the dealership financing office, after already going in with approval to use USAA, and was convinced to use this Credit Union's services. I regret doing so. From day one this place has been a hassle, from not having an online or phone service I can use to pay or check my bill/balance, to when I was initially figuring out what to do instead and called them, the person on the phone kept cutting me off as I was trying to give her information, and then told me I "Just needed to figure it out". No, that's your job, to help me utilize your services. Additionally, I've had a thousand dollar deductible on my insurance for as long as I can remember, and I payed my loan twice before getting a 'final notice' that the deductible has to be no more than 500 dollars, per their policy, in a letter threatening to charge me 4.2 thousand dollars AFTER I already had gone down initially in person to give them proof of insurance and specifically asked if there was anything else, and everything was okay. I have already swayed at least one person from using the services of this institution, and I will be doing my best to sway everyone else I come in contact with to do the same. Also, both times I've gone in there the tellers have been playing on their phones, very professional.

Have been using this bank for awhile now, the tellers are friendly and make the experience fast and enjoyable. I have never had a problem with any of my transactions. When I signed up, the teller explained everything to me that I needed to know, including fee's and the debit transaction limit without trying to hide any details. I recommend this service.

This bank has changed horribly over the last decade. They now charge a fee for every tiny little thing. Ridiculous. Not friendly for the working class at all anymore. I don't know why it has changed, but you get a charge for using your debit card now (50 cents after 4 debit transactions in a month), and they used to have a 24 hour overdraft protection, which they changed without notification. They used to have an option to reject payments before it overdrafted, known as overdraft protection, in case of an accident, which is great if you live paycheck to paycheck, because sometimes things get under calculated, or comes out a day earlier than it was supposed to. Now they charge you 27 dollars to return a payment. I had two payments from the same company for two different types of insurance (I forgot to switch banks on my insurance account--I know this is my fault), but they both were given a 27 dollar fee and returned. I didn't realize this, then I got a letter, which is understandable, but then literally the next day I got an additional letter saying I was seriously abusing my account and that my account would be closed. The letter was very threatening in nature about my credit score. It was a simple accident. The customer service is usually good, but even that has been sliding...it used to be above and beyond. The ladies that work the drive through banking, however are always really kind. I would never recommend this bank. In fact, I make sure if I know someone is looking for a bank, that they don't go there, because it is so horrible. I am not the only one experiencing these difficulties either. There is a reason there is only one First Ohio Federal Credit Union and that is because it sucks big time.
