My cousin was married in this church and my children attended the Parents' Day Out program when they were toddlers, including participation in Easter egg hunts and other activities. However, due to the decision by the parent denomination of this church, the Presbyterian Church USA , to pathetically attempt to punish the state of Israel, I and my family have decided that we will not set foot in a PCUSA church until this act of extreme hatred is rescinded. Part of my family is Jewish. We all now feel extremely unwelcome in any PCUSA setting. How can you call this Christianity? Some might argue that we should not attempt to punish a local congregation because of the sins of their leaders, but hey, that's what divestment is all about, right? My fear is that hatred from its leaders will filter down to local members who may be unintentionally influenced in their own attitudes and judgments. I think most Presbyterians are smarter than that, but, on the other hand, we must remember that the PCUSA is trying to sow seeds of hatred just as Hitler did. If the PCUSA had taken steps to reduce Palestinian terrorism as well as punish its victims, I would have been able to at least see a dim but misguided attempt to be evenhanded. However, no attempt was made. The PCUSA has engaged in a reckless and dangerous act of hatred and persecution.

First Pres is a tiny but mighty congregation that welcomes all people regardless of race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc. It's a church where "everybody knows your name" and hugs and smiles are common. The worship is heartfelt and varied, with beautiful music and lots of different elements from week to week to keep things interesting. Communion is always the first Sunday and open to all. If you're looking for a church to visit, check it out... it's a great community of people. View the website for more info.
