First Reformed Church of Scotia

About

A fellowship of people who gather to worship God, encourage one another in the Way of Christ, and try to live out Christ's Way in the world.

Story

First Reformed Church of Scotia is a fellowship of people, each called by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be disciples of Jesus Christ and instruments of his presence in the world.

We sustain our fellowship through worship and the celebration of the sacraments, through prayer, and through the encouragement of each other's spiritual growth.

Our shared task is to follow Christ in mission and ministry, in our lives, our homes, our community and our world so loved by God.

Though we are but one congregation, we are part of a larger family of congregations -- The Reformed Church in America, with nearly 1,000 congregations in the United States and Canada. The Reformed Church in America has had a continuous ministry in North America since 1628 when Dutch settlers established a Reformed congregation in New Amsterdam (now New York City). Our earlier roots are in the Protestant Reformation of the 1500s from which we get the name "Reformed." But our earliest roots are in the many generations of God's people whose faith experience, worship and wrestling with God are found in the Bible. We trust the Bible as God's living Word to us in our own time.

We invite you to worship with us. We worship in our sanctuary on Sunday mornings at 8:00 and 10:00. During the warm months, the early service is held outside on our plaza. We have Sunday School for ages 4-years-old through senior highs at 10:30, at which time they leave worship in the sanctuary for their own time of studying Christ's Way. Adults are encouraged to attend Table Talk after 10:00 worship and coffee, as well as regularly-offered mid-week times of growth and study.

Also on November 27, 2016, for my first time, I even helped people decorate the church's sanctuary with Christmas decorations, and here is something new that Walter just added to FRC Scotia for Google Maps in May 2017: 360° photos of the church, e.g., of the sanctuary seen both from the pulpit and lectern sides (seen here), and Brink Hall, e.g,. view seen from the stage in the back, and from the other side toward the entrance to Brink Hall, to give people who that I am showing my photos of the church, a prospective to what the whole sanctuary or Brink Hall will look like if you to stand inside it, from the app he downloaded on his phone named: 360° HD Camera

I just moved to Scotia from Schenectady in September. I joined this church in October. The people including the Interim Pastor, and the organist-choir director, and people who sing in the choir here at first Reformed Church of Scotia are friendly. The fellowship hall (Brink Hall) is alot bigger then the one at my old Church (FRC Schenectady called Assembly Hall), which is a bit smaller and was way too crowded which didn't have much room to move around. Brink Hall at FRC Scotia is alot bigger, (about four times the size of Assembly Hall at my old church), and it is less crowded, with plenty of room to move around. This church (FRC Scotia), both inside (especially, its sanctuary with its pews, its chancel, its balcony in the back, its windows, and its front doorways) and outside (especially, its steeple and columns in front of the church) resemble a typical church you see in a state from New England, e.g, Vermont, New Hampshire or Massachusetts, with a huge grass, brick and concrete plaza in front of it. The church itself has a picturesque look to it, just like if you would see on a post card (esp. when seen from Route 50, or Church Street). This church is a walking distance from my new apartment (about a 1\4 of a mile down both on Route 50, and from South Ballston Avenue, where I now live at) From my new apartment in Scotia to FRC Scotia, takes about 10 minutes by walking.

First Reformed Church of Scotia is a very welcoming and loving church. They have just presented a beautiful benefit concert for my reformed Church in Prattsville. A phenomenal demonstration of their wonderful music program which is extensive, and excellent. Thanks to all involved for this expression of their Christian love for others, by putting such time and effort into the concert.
