Changing the world by sharing God’s love through Grace-filled Worship, Hospitality, an Open Search for God & Serving All!

Story

Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.

For our current service times, visit: http://fumcb.org/services

We’re all new. In our community, there are always new programs, new people and new ways to draw closer to God. We celebrate that “new-ness” so you will feel comfortable here. Our Sanctuary and Open Door worship are open-minded and thoughtful. Our pastors bring a message that is life-guiding and Christ-centered.

Sanctuary Services
We gather in our historic and beautiful church for our Sanctuary services. They feature a pipe organ, full chancel choir, and elements you’ll find familiar if you grew up in the mainline tradition of Christian worship.

The Open Door
We gather in the comfortable & iconic Buskirk-Chumley Theater (114 E Kirkwood Ave) for our Open Door service. It is worship in a non-traditional, more informal way with soul-stirring music and moments of celebration.

Ministries & Missions
Inside, our ministries shepherd children, youth, college students, families, single adults, and empty nesters. We offer nurturing childcare for the very young.

Outside, you will be inspired to serve and demonstrate God’s love. Our missions embrace our neighbors in Bloomington and around the world.

Open to Everyone
It can be unsettling stepping into a new faith community. I know. I’ve stood outside a church building and wondered if my shorts and sandals were okay. I’ve asked myself if people would ignore me or welcome me, and if these were people whose faith was about grace or judgment. We understand the anxiousness and uncertainty.

Whether you’re in suit or sandals, new to church or new to this church, I believe God has something good for you! Whether it is a Sunday service, a mid-week Bible study or small group meeting or a casual chat with a pastor, we are eager to welcome you. Come and be renewed, as we CONNECT, GROW, and SERVE together.

I've never experienced such an anti- American social injustice as I did in that church. The public was invited to come ask questions of a panel of ALL pro immigration group, one even representing Bloomington Islamaphobia. I find that term offensive because radical Islamists, and the left use it to shut down free speech. NOT ONE AMERICAN CITIZEN WAS REPRESENTED ON THIS PANEL & AMERICANS ARE CRYING OUT ALL OVER THE US THEIR CONCERNS AND PROBLEMS AND ARE BEING BULLIED BY CHURCHES, Their mayors and other leaders. The fact is, the First United Church isn't interested in the fact we could help 12 refugees to every one refugee or the fact refugees are being used for profit. I'm not against refugees. I listened to the panel. They lied 3 times before I got to speak. But I didn't say anything about their lies but brought up the fact according to Exodus Immigration themselves, that Exodus gets paid $800 per refugee. Plus more. The panel & gestopo microphone moderator didn't even let me get to my concerns & questions. This was evidenced the entire time I was there with other people If you voiced ANY OPINION OR CONCERN OR QUESTION THEY DIDN'T LIKE, THEY SHUT YOU DOWN. Even calling the police on one man who only expressed his opinion with passion & wouldn't let the gestopo moderator shut him up. If they would of let the man speak, then say I'm sorry you feel that way or thank you 4 voicing your opinion. But they didn't. They bullied him. If I could press charges against this immoral, American bullying church I would. For the rest of the story I'm posting to my fb page and writing a letter to the editor. Also, because they wouldn't let me speak again I had to stand without a microphone and explain that I have sponsored 3 children, supported many programs that helps refugees and even almost went on a mission trip myself. But they YELLED AT ME and would hear none of it. They invited us there but if they DIDN'T LIKE WHAT YOU SAID, THEY SHUT YOU DOWN I Love America and I think we can do better for refugees AND Americans. But for the First United Methodist Church it's their way or the highway
