Story

Flamingo Gardens is open again after clean up from Hurricane Irma. The gardens have sustained significant damage from the storm, so please visit keeping in mind that some gardens may be closed or blocked off for repair work. All the animals are safe, and all habitats are open except the Backyard Bird Habitat.

Established in 1927, Flamingo Gardens is one of the oldest botanical gardens in South Florida. The 60-acre not-for-profit botanical garden contains over 3000 tropical and sub-tropical species of plants and trees and it's Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the largest collection of Florida native wildlife in the state.

With some of the last natural jungle growth in South Florida, the Wray Botanical Collection at Flamingo Gardens includes 21 of the largest trees of their species and a unique hammock of 200 year old Live Oak trees. The Historic Wray Home has been restored and is now a museum which provides a glimpse of life in the 1930s. The Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary gives residence to permanently injured and non-releasable wildlife and is home to 83 species of Florida native birds and animals including alligators, panthers, bobcats, otters, eagles, peacocks, and of course flamingos. The half-acre Free-flight Aviary boasts over 250 birds representing 45 species. In the last 20 years birds in the Aviary have produced over 2000 offspring which have been release into the wild.

A hidden treasure within Florida, it's great for walks and photography. Flamingos, Peacocks, and other exotic birds roam free and are not afraid to approach you--excellent photo opportunities. The tram ride is enjoyable and knowledge. One of the drivers, Brian, is very friendly and gives a great tour. Bring the family. They'll love it.

A great conservation organization with a very fun new otter habitat. One of the few museum gift shops where I actually enjoy shopping. It's not the overall bargain it should be though. Admission is way too high. A few of the staff are surly which is a shame because most of them are great. I'd like to see much better service at the snack & beverage concession.

I absolutely enjoyed this place , is quite peacefull and charming. The price is moderate and quite affordable . The staff is friendly and courteous. We did a little tour of the main house and heard a little bit of history of the place. The food is a little overpriced but it always is at all of the attraction parks . Overall we enjoyed our family trip to flamingo gardens .

This is a wonderful place to wander around for half a day or so. The people are very welcoming and the plants are beautiful. The animals are in cages but they are rescued and/or injured. The story behind the original owners is fascinating.
