If you are a baseball fan, then this is a wonderful place to visit. The outfield wall of Forbes Field is all that remains of that old ballpark that holds so many memories for Pirate Fans. The University of Pittsburgh currently stands where Forbes Field once Stood. The remaining of wall is surrounded by university buildings but you can still step back in time as you walk along the wall and the flagpole that stood in the field of play. It was here that Bill Mazeroski hit his walk-off home run in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series. That portion of the outfield wall with the 406-distance marker is currently on the Riverwalk outside of the Pirates current Home at PNC Park. If you want a bit more Forbes Field History, be sure to walk across the street and go inside Posvar Hall. Here embedded in glass set into the floor is Homeplate from the Last Game at Forbes Field. According to one of the people I talked to the current position of home plate is about 15-feet from where it was in the old Ballpark. According to the gentleman I was talking to if they had placed it at the exact location, it would be in a women’s bathroom. Parking is tight especially when the University Students are on site. There are a limited number metered street spot available but they tend to fill up quickly during the week. I visited early on a Saturday Morning and there were several spots available. I am a baseball fan and I am glad that I took the time to visit this site.
I remember Forbes Field, as being a cavernous ballpark. Lots of room in the outfield, and places for triples. I would like to see more places that have parts of the older stadiums saved.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
This is definitely a hidden gem in Oakland. It’s hard to believe that this site filled with university buildings was home to the World Series and a winning home run by Bill Mazeroski of the Pittsburgh pirates. If you’ve never seen the wall definitely come check it out. This is the first time I’ve stopped to visit the wall even though I drive past it nearly every day. It will take you back to another time and another world.
Home to Babe Ruth’s final three HRs. Site of the 1960 WS walk-off HR by Bill Mazeroski.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree

Neat to discover this peice of baseball history has survived, despite the stadium being long gone. If you're a baseball fan, it's worth the visit.
Celebrated one of the greatest moments in baseball history. Had a wonderful time seeing some of my old friends. Couldn't have asked for a better day.
This is impressive for baseball fans and historians. Please remember to check out home plate
Loved FF as a kid growing up in the ‘burg. Sad they had to take it down. And look at the distances to the wall compared to today’s high school field dimensions in MLB. No wonder today’s players hit more home runs.
