Can't believe I never knew about this until I went in June. Been going to Pittsburgh for 5+yrs and my kids wanted to go and see some history. Very interesting place with gorgeous views and tons of relics from our countries past. Learn more about Pittsburgh and the Fort than just seeing the city itself.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Worth visiting if you're in Fort Pitt/Point State Park to see the fountain and enjoy the scenery. If you visited the Heinz History Center within 24 hours of coming here, just show your Heinz admission tickets to get in for free. Otherwise, the fee is $8 as of this writing. We spent an hour here. The centerpiece of the museum is a nice diorama that shows what the fort was like in its heyday. The second floor tells the story of the fort and early Pittsburgh. That story is a familiar one - Native Americans displaced, betrayed, and forced to sign unfair treaties as control of the land changed from France to Britain and finally to independent America. It's a sobering reminder of what the first settlers of the land had to give up, in order for this country to get its start.
Great museum detailing the history of the area. Great exhibits and some AMAZING artifacts in a nicely laid out 2-story building with wonderful views of the 3 rivers and old fort. Really really cool that they have 2 cannons used at Yorktown and personally recognized by Marquis de Lafayette! Great spot definitely worth a visit!!
Well kept and informative museum. Special promotion got my son in for free: adults pay 8. The grounds are beautiful and nice to walk.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
We decided to stop while in town for a football game as we are history buffs. Looked small from the outside but was actually surprised how big it was and how many pieces of history/information were inside. Amazing to try to imagine everything happening right where we were standing. Cool place and highly suggest stopping. Some of the best views on the water as well! Money well worth it!
We had a great time exploring PIttsburgh. We were lucky enough to have a history teacher as our tour guide for this museum. She gave us unique information about Fort Pitt and Pittsburgh. We learned where the phrase “it costs a buck” comes from and the phrase “don’t tread on me” comes from. We toured the brick house the oldest building in Pittsburgh built by the British in 1764
Fort Pitt museum sits in the corner of one of the old remaining walls of Fort Pitt, feet away from the 1764 block house, and acts as the center piece for one of the cities most beautiful parks. The museum is small, two floors, composed of an incredible amount of reading that'll start around the 1750s.... It's an informative read about Pittsburgh and the surrounding territories coming into modern day existence, and those that came before us. Great information regarding the earlier French Fort, the struggles of natives and settlers alike, the existence and usage of Fort Pitt, and the climax and outcome of the French and Indian War, until the revolutionary period. While there is a lot of reading, there's a fair amount of neat little artifacts along the way, that help keep the reading alive and exciting. Staff was OK, not very informative or helpful but at least was there to accept payment, but not very enthusiastic... $8 price is fair enough for what you'll see... Covid19 protocol in place, mask required, and plenty of sanitization between exhibits. An awesome way to start a trip in Pittsburgh. Very recommended.
Great place to visit! Lots of information on this historic site!
Wonderful place! A very educational museum, I really enjoyed it! Really interesting exhibitions, excellent details of the history of Fort Pitt. Highly recommended to visit, my tears were falling down with the sad history of our Native Americans. Objects, paintings, installations everything it's very interesting and it's affordable and great price.
Great museum depicting the early history of the area. It's too bad the fort itself no longer stands.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
