My son and I are in the process of visiting every Chinese restaurant in Chittenden County, VT. We always order the same thing. I order a chicken and broccoli combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. My son orders a sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice and beef teriyaki sticks. Price: $21.05 or $.53/oz is significantly above the average price we would find in Chittenden County. Portion: 2.8 lbs between the two meals is the smallest portion size we've seen thus far. Pros: - Good flavored chicken & broccoli - They provided 4 soy sauce packets and 2 duck sauce containers Cons: - They didn't include fortune cookies... how ironic : - University Mall food court; Most of the restaurants in the mall have left; foot traffic is low and it's only a matter of time before Fortune Cookie follows suite. - They're still using old school styrofoam containers which don't hold much food and are not microwavable safe or environmentally friendly; To be fair, this restaurant is located in a mall food court where take home containers aren't necessary. - The pork fried rice had no flavor and was dry. Often you'll find restaurants have pork & vegetable bits in their rice, not this restaurant. For me, the rice makes or breaks the review. In this case, it's the most dry and flavorless rice I've had at a Chinese takeout. - They didn't provide napkins or utensils Impression: Inconvenient location in the University Mall food court in South Burlington offering meager portion sizes of bland food at much higher than average prices, earning Fortune Cookie a 2.0 star review.
I know food is getting expensive! No broccoli in my veggie stir fry, the girl scooped my white rice with pork fried rice scoop. The pork fried rice my friend ordered was burned and you could smell how burned it was. The girl running register and waiting on people no customer service skills. Soaps sad I use to love this place
Just had Lo Mein and the taste was delicious. Friendly staff and good service. Will come again.
The woman at the counter had a concerning cough, while handling soft drinks, and the exchanges of food for cash. I found a hair in my food, as the cook did not have a hair net. The kitchen dose not have adequate lighting. Someone needs to help these guys get up to code. I don't want anything bad to happen to their shop, but wish my health, and their safety was ensured.
Portion was pretty good but the food was pretty bad, I've had a lot of Chinese from different places, how hard is it to get fried chicken in sweet sauce right? Also the eggrolls are abysmal and "tastes like Play-Doh" as my nephew put it.
I ordered pork chow mein and received some kind of vegetable dish with no noodles and the tiniest little pieces of pork I've ever seen, and not much of it at that. The egg rolls tasted a bit off and the crab rangoon filling was sickeningly sweet. Pork fried rice was okay, but once again hardly any pork to be found.
I've revised my review recently. For a long time I was only ordering from their appetizer based combos, which are pretty solid for greasy spoon-style chinese. Recently I've ordered a few of their entrees, and found that none of them even come close to the right flavor. They taste actively rancid in many cases.
Just need a quick meal as stop over for travelling. The owner called us over while we were looking and kept bragging how we will not be disappointed with his flavourful dishes and guarantee it's better than any Chinatown restarant would have to offer. There was only 4 kiosk at this food court so obviously selection was very minimal at that mall so we ordered from him. The portions are tiny and literally can eat the entire plate in 3-4 forkfull and over-priced and greasy without any taste. The owner also tried ripping us off by asking us to pay the difference in Canadian Dollar to give us a better deal but in fact once we calculated it ourselves it would have cost us more that credit card...figure he was being dishonest and he started to back pedal when we showed him the calculation and he kept telling us that he isn't a well educated man...whatever! No big deal as we will never return there anyways.
It tastes a bit like how I imagine people who've lost all sense of taste taste good Asian food. Also there aren't any actual noodles in the chicken chow mein.
Came with my family, had an amazing experience. The gentleman was extremely kind, and the wait for the food was definitely worth it. Some of the best Chinese food my family and I have had in a long time.
