Founders Restaurant
"A breakfast/brunch restaurant located in The Shaffner Inn, a historic inn located in downtown Winston-Salem. We serve breakfast and lunch during the week and brunch on the weekend. Our location is very unique with our restaurant nestled within a historic home, with decor and fun mismatched china to compliment the era of the home. The menu is anything but traditional, however, starting with the drink menu that has fun mimosas, an incredible Bloody Mary, wine and beer. You have to try our specialities- New Orleans Style Shrimp and Grits, Texas Pete Honey Chicken and Waffles and Chef’s Choice Avocado Toast changes weekly."

We booked our rehearsal dinner at Founders Restaurant, and wedding party stayed at the B&B. What an amazing meal! We had flank steak and several types of vegetables. Two individuals were vegan and had the cauliflower steak. Dessert was cheesecake and cobbler with ice cream. Everything was delicious!! Staff was so attentive! Kellie was so helpful and accommodating for the reservations and the event, Gary helped with the dinner, and was so attentive, as well as all the other staff members! Then the staff boxed and labeled all the leftovers so guests could take boxes! What a nice touch! We had the whole place to ourselves and there was a large deck for people to mingle. Would highly recommend!!
Excellent gem outside the city. It’s beautifully decorated and with charm. Reasonable price. Gluten free options galore! Lost one star because two salads without a protein shouldn’t take 40 minutes.Food: 4/5
We were 1st seated in the porch area where the a/c vent was blowing cold air on us. The wait staff were very gracious and accommodating by moving us into the restaurant at a table further away from the vents. The food Eggs Benedict was delicious and prettily plated. The cherry bomb mimosa really hit the spot for me!!! I will definitely be going back!!!
Service is great and the food amazing. We enjoyed the shrimp and grits, french toast and eggs Benedict. Highly recommend the bloody Mary also. Gary was so attentive and delightful.Food: 5/5
Such a cute and cozy place to have breakfast or lunch. They also have beautiful paintings of different artists from the area.Food: 4/5
We came here on a Sunday morning and, since we weren't sure what time we were going to arrive, showed up without reservations. Pro tip: make reservations if possible. Fortunately for us, a party cancelled and we were able to get squeezed in. Which is great, because as we were waiting to hear from the staff about a table, we saw tray after tray of amazing food walk past and would have been highly disappointed if we had missed out! I ordered the chicken and waffles and, wow, it was amazing. It very well may be the best I've ever had. There was a little kick to it but it wasn't overpowering, and the honey was a great sweet touch. I added a side of grits and they were delicious! My wife got the avocado toast which looked like something out of a magazine or cooking show. She said it was good but not great and would probably order something else next time. The staff was very attentive and super flexible to be able to work us into their busy Sunday morning without a reservation. We can't wait to come back!
Great last spur-of-the-moment find. This a great cozy place to bring your special one. Attentive service and good food. The brunch menu is limited, but the options are tasty. Limited hours and busy weekends. The property's parking area is available but hard to reach. Street parking is available southeast of the restaurantFood: 5/5
I have visited in on several different occasions. The first occasion was for the hocus pocus brunch. The staff seemed to not know anything that was going on that day or any special menu options. After that experience it left a bad taste in my mouth due to the lack of knowledge/experience of the staff and the menu. The food was cold and I wasn’t going to go back, but I decided I would try it at a different time because I believe in second chances. The next occasion I visited was a weekday and it seemed like the place was understaffed. The server, Stacey, did make several accommodations for my party in a timely manner even thought she had quite a few other tables at the same time and seemed to not have help. She made the experience very different than the first time and everything was impeccable. The food was out quickly and my mom and I loved the experience. This made me decide I would be a regular customer. The shrimp and grits were great and my mom loved her chicken and waffles. Fast forward to last week when I visited the restaurant for a business lunch I asked for Stacey since our service had been so good last time I was told she wasn’t working and proceeded to eat there and the experience was garbage again. The waiting to get sat, the cold food, the server was always on the phone it seemed. I will never go back. Two bad experiences.
The service was impeccable, and the setting is very special and quaint. We particularly enjoyed the shrimp & grits!Food: 5/5
We've had breakfast there a couple of times: this last time I got the Smoke Salmon Eggs Benedict and my wife had an omelette. The coffee was terrible, the poached eggs were not really poached, and he omelette was super dry. Very good service except they brought the bill before we asked for it. The food didn't all come out at once, so two of us had to wait for the other two to get their food. We wanted to start together out of politeness. It was surprising because there weren't many customers at that time. While waiting, two of us watched our food get cold. The smoke salmon in my eggs was not of great quality pink, not very red, and not good flavor. The biscuits were ok, a little dry, and they did not put any butter on the table I guess we could have asked for it....The food was presented excellently, and the service was great except for the bill arriving quickly, as if they were trying to rush us out right after we finished eating. The ambiance was fantastic, and the prices are fair though.
