About

A hub for creativity in the St. Croix River Valley where BIG art and BIG ideas meet. FREE and open to the public, from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year.

Story

Located in the scenic St. Croix River Valley, Franconia Sculpture Park is a nonprofit arts organization operating a 43-acre outdoor sculpture park, active artist residency, and community arts programming. Franconia was founded in 1996 by a small group of professional artists, including current Artistic Director/CEO John Hock, who envisioned a supportive artist residency community and open-air sculpture laboratory accessible to all. Today, this vision has been achieved through an active artist residency program that serves 40 artists each year and arts learning programming that serves over 100,000 annual visitors. Franconia provides an intriguing and exciting place to discover an ever-changing exhibition of monumental sculpture, and the opportunity to meet artists-in-residence who invite you to engage with their creations.

Through our artist residency program, Franconia awards competitive fellowships and internships to up to 40 emerging, mid-career, and established visual artists each year, supporting the creation and exhibition of large-scale sculpture at our 43-acre sculpture park and artist residency in Franconia, MN.

Franconia also provides artists the opportunity to exhibit two- and three-dimensional artwork at Franconia in the City @ Casket Gallery in Northeast Minneapolis, MN. We foster an inspiring outdoor environment for the community to create, engage, and learn about three-dimensional art through an annual exhibition of over 100 sculptures created by artists-in-residence.

Mission

Franconia Sculpture Park provides physically and intellectually wide open spaces where all are inspired to participate in the creative process.

The sculptures are BIG and kids can climb on them. The placards giving artist and artwork background are very interesting and brief. The artists come from around the entire globe. This place is an absolute must for families with kids and anyone who enjoys art, outdoors or both. I can't believe it's free. Please donate generously when you visit.

We brought our dogs here to explore the park. The dogs absolutely loved it and there was plenty of space around the park to walk without them getting bored. My husband and I loved seeing (and climbing) on the many sculptures. There is a huge variety of sculptures and it was very fun to see what people created and why. We highly recommend, especially for kids because there is a lot to climb on/explore!

I came for the sculptures, but found myself admiring the restored prairie grasses and wild flowers equally as much. Thought we'd be there maybe an hour or so, but we were there for over three hours and still didn't see everything. Highly recommend

My boyfriend had never been, so we decided to check it out. Kind of a gloomy day when we were there, but it was fun to walk around and see all of the sculptures. There was food truck there which I though was a great idea! Will definitely be back.
