Freedom Church was founded in 2003 when a small and diverse group of men and women sharing little beyond a big dream began meeting weekly in a home for prayer and Bible study. From this humble beginning we grew to a weekly Monday night meeting, and later started meeting on Sundays. Two sister churches partnered together to help our young church (which was formerly known as Morning Star Church of Greater Philadelphia) take root: Morning Star New York in New York City, and Grace Covenant Church in the Greater Washington D.C. area.
In 2006, David Estes, assisted by his wife Kathleen, became the first full-time pastor of Freedom Church. Not only did David and Kathleen help lead Freedom Church to numerical growth and spiritual vitality, but they also assembled an amazingly dynamic music team that is one of the signature elements of our church family.
In late 2010 David and Kathleen began to sense that it was time to pass the baton of leadership to another young couple in Freedom Church. In June 2011, they answered the call to serve our sister church in Washington D.C., and handed over the leadership of Freedom Church to the current lead pastoral couple, Gabe and Jennifer Bouch.
In October of 2011, Freedom Church moved its Sunday morning services to the historic Prince Music Theater, located in the heart of Center City. Freedom Church is an exciting place to be these days. Though God has done much in our short history, our best days are still ahead of us.
We are convinced that the well-being and ultimate destiny of every man and woman, every family, every community, and every nation is tied up with the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is the Savior and the rightful Ruler of every individual and community. Therefore, our mission is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
As part of the Every Nation family of churches and ministries, we partner with local congregations around the world to fulfill the following mission statement: To honor God by planting Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered,
socially-responsible churches
and campus ministries in
every nation.
Our core values are:
-Honoring the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every area of our lives (Colossians 2:6);
-Communicating the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ lovingly, accurately, and with conviction (Matthew 28:18-19);
-Helping others walk in faithful obedience to all of Christ’s teachings (Matthew 28:20);
-Developing leaders for sustainable generational transfer (2 Timothy 2:2);
-Growing healthy marriages and families, and serving those who find themselves without a family (Psalm 68:5-6 and Psalm 127).
