BUSINESS LAW
Fremstad Law started with a focus on helping businesses and their owners. Our mission is moving people forward, and this is especially true in business. We try to have strong relationships with our business clients and love to actually get to our clients’ business locations and truly understand what they do. We also work with experienced third parties such as accountants, bankers, and business executives who assist us in ensuring that we are making not only the right legal decisions for your business, but also the best business decisions. Below is some of what we do, but if you don’t see something, call and ask as we have almost certainly seen and done it.

CIVIL LITIGATION
Lawsuits are frequently discussed in the news and people often hear of threats to sue. Generally speaking, a lawsuit is a tool to resolve a legal dispute with one or more persons, companies, or government entities. Lawsuits can be expensive, time consuming, and slow or they can be fast and relatively inexpensive.

CRIMINAL DEFENSE
Being charged with committing a crime is a scary and stressful experience, not only for the accused, but also for the person’s family and friends. Criminal defense lawyers, especially very good ones, not only represent clients in court but also try to reduce that fear and stress as much as possible. Knowing that our criminal defense clients and their families are often scared and unfamiliar with the criminal justice system, our first meetings with a client are usually designed to gather information about the client and the case. We do this because we want to treat you not just as another client, but as a person we want to build a relationship with.

ESTATE PLANNING AND PROBATE
Estate planning is planning for your estate (i.e. your assets, property, etc.) while you are living, while you are incapacitated, and after your death. This involves transferring, buying, selling, or otherwise managing your assets while you are living and distribution or management of your assets after your death. Planning now (while you are still able to) can minimize and often eliminate hassle, conflict, and cost in the future.

FAMILY LAW
Fremstad Law Family Law attorney Lesley Foss provides clients with full-service family law representation. “Family Law” consists of the areas of law involving children and parents, married couples, or other persons with a domestic connection. Family Law encompasses divorce/marital dissolution, parental rights and responsibilities, residential responsibility (physical custody), parenting time (visitation), child support, and paternity.

REAL ESTATE
Our founder Joel Fremstad was General Counsel for a real estate development company and is still involved in ownership of commercial properties. We have been involved with all aspects of real estate transactions and look forward to assisting you.

Mission

At Fremstad Law, our mission is to move our clients and our employees forward through relationships based on wisdom and trust. To do this, we want to transform how people use attorneys, and ensure that we as attorneys work with you.

Fremstad law began out of a frustration with traditional legal practice and, believe it or not, often unreasonable or unrealistic client expectations. Much of law practice is reactionary. The client comes in after the contract is breached, after the divorce is imminent, after accusations of wrong doing or after the law suit has been started and expects the lawyer to fix it. That’s how it works on TV isn’t it? Truth is, sometimes we can’t fix it or win it. When law practice is reactionary it almost always becomes very expensive and all consuming for the client. We often tell clients that sometimes even if you “win,” you aren’t going to like it, or us. As such we want to think differently. First, as our Mission Statement says, our goal is to move you-forward. This may mean settling a case, taking a plea bargan, or stipulating to a divorce and custondy. In other words, we define winning, by taking the long view, not the short view, or perhaps by winning the war, not the battle.

RELATIONSHIPS

We start from a place of respect for each person we meet, whether they sit beside us as clients or across the table from us with opposing counsel. We listen carefully and seek to understand and be compassionate. To be able to help our clients move forward, they need to know we listen, we care and we are true to our word. In a word, they can trust us.

WISDOM

When emotions run high, as they often do when conflicts turn into legal issues, it can be challenging to make decisions that move a person forward. We bring both the knowledge of the law and the experience of what the consequences of different choices are likely to be. We know when pushing is more harmful than settling. We will be direct and specific in our advice and we may challenge and push back on what you say you want, because our goal is to move you forward.

TRUST

It is more than knowing someone will tell you the truth, although you know they will. It is more than knowing that they care about you as a person, although you know they do. It is more than knowing that they are experts in their field, although you know they are. Trust is all these and more. Trust is earned through each interaction you have with us and the only way we can help you move forward.
