Story

Behind gandlclothing.com is a real clothing store with a staff of real people. Established in 1917, G&L Clothing has been an institution of downtown Des Moines, Iowa, for nearly a century. An online presence first emerged in 1999 and continued with the launch of our full-service eCommerce store, gandlclothing.com, in 2005. Whether in-store or online, G&L Clothing serves working men and women throughout Iowa and the world with work and casual clothing from brands like Carhartt, Dickies, Levi's, Wrangler, Savane, Grand River and more. Our sizing selection is hard to beat with bottoms ranging from 26 to 70 inch waist and tops from Small to 8XL and 5XL Tall. We also stock a variety of work boots in our footwear department including safety-toe, met-guard, slip-resistant, insulated, rubber, casual, and athletic styles - with a large range of boot and shoe sizes and widths. Our shoe brands include Danner, Carolina, Keen, New Balance, Merrell, Timberland Pro, and more. Along with our individual customers, G&L Clothing also supplies companies with uniforms, outdoor clothing, flame-resistant clothing, safety clothing and boots. Our Commercial Uniform Service also offers personalized garments with embroidery or screen printing available.

This place had a good variety of steel toe boots/shoes. The footwear guy was friendly, knowledgeable, and was very efficient working with other customers. This establishment seems to be run by very competent indiviuals. Excellent job, G&L Clothing.

Great selection of big and tall. Million varieties of coveralls jeans and work clothing of all types. Great customer service. Not bad prices.

Been shopping here for 20+ yrs.
Awesome selection, knowledgeable staff and a selection second to none. Service is very prompt and friendly as well.

Efficient, friendly, got a good deal! When I first walked in, back in November or December, I noticed the store seems to be organized by category/function rather than gender, which I like because workwear manufacturers don't always make what you need in women's sizes or the women's version of an item is inferior. An older gentleman immediately greeted me and asked if he could help me find anything. "I need overalls," I replied, skeptical they would have my size (XS regular), because the farm superstore in Ankeny sure didn't - in ANY brand or style. "We have lined and unlined," he explained as he led me straight to them. "Definitely insulated! I work outside," I said. He showed me the options, the colors they came in, and added that they still had a few pairs of the recently discontinued version in stock, on sale (score!), thought they might be my size, and showed me those on the other side of the rack. He encouraged me to try them on to make sure it was the right size, which I could do quickly right there over my clothes, without even taking my (clean) shoes off. I think I was in and out in about 10 minutes! I plan on coming back for my next work coat!
