Dreadlock history- a crash course: Although delivered to current mainstream culture through the international success of Reggae musician Bob Marley, dreadlocked hair has been a popular style throughout the world for millennia. Worn by ancient Egyptians, dreadlocked mummies and pictorially decorated artifacts evidencing hair worn in dreads have been found in archeological sites of North Africa. The Hindu god Shiva, as well as Aztec priests are described in sacred texts as having dreaded locks. From Corinth to Polynesia, Burmese to Senegalese, Nazirites, Sufis, and even a Bishop in Jerusalem, historical texts reveal that knitted tresses have permeated conventional fashion throughout the ages.
