Went to this school when it was under Cookie Greer as principle. The staff was kind, attentionate. The teaching style ruled out any competitiveness among the children. Extra-curricular activities were incredibly engaging and well organized. Have nothing but positive feedback for the 2 years I spent there.

I want to take back what I said about this school. Every last word! I have been there long enough now to give a proper assessment! #1 if you live in an apartment your child is not treated fairly! This school only care about the people who give money to the PTA which is a JOKE because there is so much they could be doing and they are not but by all mean the play ground looks pretty good thank the the PTAs fun raising. #2 there is no crossing guard to help the children who do live in the apartments get home safely! # 3 my son was hit with rocks splitting his skin open while I filled in for the crossing guard spot and I have the pictures to back in up. When I called the school, they said "it was not on school property, so "there is nothing we can do." Needless to say there is no crossing guard because I went back to drive my son! The PTA won't ask to fill this spot because there is no glory in it! #4 My son is in 5th grade and one of the 5th grade boys wrote on the bathroom wall, so these people thought it would be a good idea to tape off the 5th grade boys bathroom until someone said they did it! No one told who did it and after about a week they turned to the VIDEO CAMS to find out who did it! The teachers are a joke! They would rather see children not reading then read something they did not approve of them reading! We help my son in math and AFTER we teach it to him he understands it just fine! I hate this school and everything it REALLY stands for! "The patriots" are you kidding me with that name? My son is in 5th grade and we are moving as soon as our lease is up BECAUSE of this school! #5 the learning centers are a very bad idea!! The kids hear the other teachers teaching something and they try to hear it and them come home teaching you what the THINK they heard! This school is just one big mess! I can't wait to move! # 6 God forbid the boys play "zombies at play time and make their hands into a gun HOWEVER when another student threatened to shoot my son and his friend NOTHING WAS SAID OR DONE and yes I called!!! Boys will be boys is the attitude UNLESS it is not pre-approved by the school and it's staff! Good luck to any parent who is trying to do the right thing because you WILL NOT HAVE ANY HELP FROM THIS PLACE!!

My family and I moved here during 4th grade year. I was concerned with the who learning centers plan. I was wrong! With the AMAZING STAFF at GWES the children truly are getting the best education! The teachers are emailing me back so fast when I e-mail them with questions! I don't know how they do it, and teach 84 kids!!! God bless the who staff at GWES! However there needs to be an adult on University BLVD to help the kids cross the road....come on PTA lets get some volunteer out there until Kingsport Cirty finds their long term solution!!!

AWFUL. This new school is experimenting with "new" methods such as "Learning Centers", where there are 4 classes of kids doing different things AT THE SAME TIME. They made our children guinea pigs to test some sort of "modern" crap which will be done with in time, just as it was with all other crap. But meantime kids are not getting a decent education and are not able to focus enough in such crazy environment. No personal textbooks (we had to find out what teacher uses and purchase them on our own), only handouts. NICE. Overall it's just one big headache for a parent who wants to make sure their kid gets ready for middle school, not just tossed around "learning centers" and does so many little things during the day.
