The Macon office is a non-profit law firm serving 23 counties in the Middle GA area, working to assure that low income people have access to justice.

Story

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is a statewide non-profit law firm serving 154 counties in Georgia outside the five-county metropolitan Atlanta area. Those five counties are served by the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.

The mission of GLSP is to provide access to justice, but also avenues out of poverty. Helping clients reach safety, then income and housing stability are the first steps on that road.

We provide representation to eligible clients in selected civil matters. We do not handle criminal cases. We do not handle fee-generating cases where a person may obtain representation from the private bar.

GLSP serves about 10,000 clients a year directly and many more through free legal clinics and “Ask a Lawyer” days. We also conduct dozens of community education events around the state every year during which valuable information is given to attendees that they can use to help solve their legal issues.

The Macon staff focuses on preserving affordable housing, reducing poverty by helping clients retain or obtain financial benefits, keeping children in schools, and serving Spanish-speaking clients. Six attorneys and three paralegals serve 23 counties with more than 136,000 potentially eligible clients. Macon also houses the elder law project and Skadden Fellow, who focuses on education.

The mission of Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is to provide access to justice and opportunities out of poverty for Georgians with low-incomes who reside in 154 counties outside of metro Atlanta. We offer legal services to persons with critical civil legal needs such as domestic violence, loss of housing, need for safety net benefits, and much more. We also work for systemic solutions and promote the Rule of Law.
