The Catholic cemetery is the final resting place for the members of our Faith Community on our Journey to God.

Story

Gethsemane Cemetery was developed in the early 1970s and was officially dedicated by Archbishop Thomas Connolly, Archbishop of Seattle, in May 1975 to serve the Catholic faith community of South King and North Pierce Counties.

The property was originally purchased in 1888 for use as a Catholic Indian Mission School. When the school closed, the property was deeded to the Diocese (now Archdiocese) of Seattle.

Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery is a sacred space, a place of prayer and quiet reflection that invites us to remember all those “who have gone now before us marked with the sign of faith.”

Warning to people who decides to put up their own cemetery ground vase in Gethsemane Cemetery. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! We had a painful experience that will stick with the family forever. Our big mistake: we decided to buy vase outside of Gethsemane, set it up for Memorial Day for my Mom and Dad in good conscience as an expression of love and honor to our parents. After enjoying it for two weeks we were horrified to find out that the 2 vases were gone and we even brought a bunch of flowers. We were angry that someone must have stolen the vases - until we called the Gethsemane office and found out that THEY REMOVED THE VASES WITHOUT TELLING US. We were flatly told without any apology that they don't allow digging and it's their cemetery. Just wondering what domain we have after owning the lot for 7 years. A simple call before they make their action to reiterate our mistake will suffice. Instead, WE FELT DISRESPECTED AND UNIMPORTANT. A very disappointing feeling knowing with peace of mind. that we chose a Catholic cemetery to have a final resting place for our beloved parents. May the Lord fill our hearts with love and forgiveness.
