A caring community of equality and grace
At Glendale Baptist Church, we embrace God’s love for everyone. In a time when many churches still exclude women from ministry, we have called two women to serve as our pastors. We celebrate the fact that God’s call in our lives is not limited by sexual orientation or gender identity. Our community makes space for everyone, including people who identify as LGBTQIA+, and we rejoice in marriage equality for all persons. We seek to be accessible and inclusive, recognizing the variety of abilities and limitations we embody. Consequently, we welcome all of God’s children in worship, in leadership, and in service. What’s more, we take seriously the process of helping people discover their gifts and callings for ministry, as clergy and as lay leaders.
Some may wonder how a church like Glendale can be Baptist, but we’re Baptists loud and proud. We work to uphold the separation of church and state. We treasure our right and duty to read the Bible for ourselves. We value the autonomy of the local church and affirm the priesthood of the believer. Because we hold to these four Baptist principles, we join with Baptists, past and present, who believe God’s love invites us to grow ever wider in our love. Our partnerships and affiliations, which demonstrate these commitments, include the Alliance of Baptists, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz, and the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists.
If Glendale sounds like a place where you too can discover yourself and grow wider in your love of God’s creation, we hope you will join us on a Sunday morning or a Wednesday night. We also invite you to contact us to talk about Glendale and what it means to be part of “a caring community of equality and grace.”
