This beautiful stone church sits fortress-like on its promontory overlooking Alexander Muir Park. I think of the hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, A Stalwart Never Failing" every time I see it from my pedestrian vantage point on Yonge Street as it slopes upwards of the small hill just south of Lawrence Ave. As beautiful as the parks and architecture of this section of Yonge Street, the congregation of Glenview Presbyterian has provided a magnificent offering to the streetscape with a mosaic of stones and pebbles representing the beautiful church building that sits just above the buttressed wall amid the lush greenery of the big trees that line the local streets. I remember seeing the artist commissioned to create and install the mosaic. He told me he is from Ottawa, and obviously his name is renowned because his work is the proof, that he is an ornament to his profession. I thank the good people of Glenview for this addition of art purposed for the embellishment of the community and as means of invitation, of outreach to all. The installation seemingly opens the gates of an impressive cloistered fortress, by communicating through art that reaches you where you are as a passerby on the street, and welcomes you in to this Bastion of goodwill and faith.
