well let me just say the staff are as rude as they come. The hassle I went through to cancel will assure me that they will never have me step a foot in any gold's gym ever again

I enjoyed working out at the Glen Burnie Golds for over two years, and most of the employees were nice. However, just like the reviews I read before signing up, cancelling my membership was like trying to get out of the mafia. Even though I moved 2000 miles away to Colorado, everyone kept telling me I could only cancel by coming in. I told them I'm not flying to Baltimore to cancel my membership, there has to be some other way. At first no one knew what to do. Finally someone said I needed to talk to Shannon. After several attempts to get in touch with Shannon and waiting for her to return my calls, Shannon came to the phone and was very rude. She said I had to email her my phone number and request, and MAYBE it would be cancelled in 30 days, in other words I would probably have to pay for at least 2 more months. I told her I paid an extra $30 at sign-up to be able to cancel any time, and asked her why we couldn't just do it over the phone. She hung up on me. I tried emailing her and it bounced back, so the address she gave me was no good. I gave up getting anywhere with Golds and called my bank and set up a dispute for the recurring charges. The banking associate I talked to in Rhode Island said the same thing happened to him when he tried to cancel his membership at Golds Gym, and he ended up disputing it too. So take a hike Golds Gym and Shannon, you'll never get another dime from me, ever.

This used to be an amazing gym. It's gotten so crowded in there that I can't even get on the free weights side during the week anymore. But instead of adding a couple of new bench presses or fixing some of the broken equipment (every other machine has something wrong with it)...they spent $60,000 on FAKE GRASS. They covered about a quarter of the floor in the stuff, cramming all the machines that were there all into one side. You can't even walk between some of the machines because they are so close together. If you want to work out at all, be prepared to be in someone's sweaty armpit the whole time.....unless you like fake grass...there's tons of room out there on the grass. If you lift any kind of free weights, stay away from this gym. You will be forced to sacrifice a lot of your workout because it's way too busy in the free weight area, and not nearly enough equipment. There is so much wasted space in this gym I cannot understand it. Everything I want to do at a gym has become harder and harder over the years, and now it's gotten to the point where I can't stand being in the place. It's equally frustrating that there seems to be no comparable gyms in the area. And the slamming. Wow. I know it's a gym and I certainly don't expect quiet, but people THROW weights in there, to draw attention to themselves I guess. Like every single rep is a cry for attention. No one in management has ever stopped people from doing it. They just let it happen. I am also seeing more and more guys working out without any shirt on. Again, management seems to think this is appropriate. Chalk too. There's even signs that say no chalk, but the chalk warriors come in and spread it all over everything everywhere. I never used any of the classes, but for the people who like to do that, bad news. They cut the class area in half for....you guessed it....more fake grass. That room is embarrassingly small now. Don't worry, they added a garage door though....you know, in case they want to park vans in there or something (???). They left some of the hardwood from the class area, and sections of the walls that were removed...so it looks like a cobbled mess that wasn't thought out before deconstruction began. I have no idea what they intend to do on this remaining hardwood. I don't think they have a clue either. I am actually shocked they didn't just put more fake grass there. Fake grass up the walls, on the ceiling, whatevs. I am half expecting to see a Merry-Go-Round show up in the middle, with a hot dog stand, a roller skating rink, and hot air balloon rides. Maybe a knife toss or Skeeball.

I started coming to this gym about 5 years ago, and I have to say I love it. Staff and people who come here are both very pleasant, there's plenty of machines and weighs to choose from on both levels of the establishment, and there's even an outside section for enjoying the weather with your workout. (Plus, rumors of a crossfit-style workout area coming soon, I'll update on that later). If you're unsure about how to get things going or start up in the gym, PLEASE talk to the staff! I can't express this enough! I neglected to at first, but once I did start getting to know them, the gym was that much better. Everyone knows about the equipment, about working out ( VERY much so), and is happy to see you. The only downside to the gym is that frequently you'll see a Smith machine, one of the cable flye machines, or a calf press out of order for maintenance. They have tanning, a day care for while you're there, a cardio cinema, a spin room, plenty of personal trainers, a TRX system, and (as aforementioned) a soon-to-be turf/crossfit area. Oh! And a pretty spacious hardwood area for their yoga and dance classes (not specific to that if classes aren't going on)! Lots going on and a lot to choose from. As far as pricing goes, you'll probably be at about $35 a month for basic membership and 2 amenities. Stop by!
