Background story: my mother went in for a kidney stone to be removed by one of the doctors at Good Samaritan Hospital, he is the same doctor who performed an earlier surgery for the same thing and left her with no results. She was scheduled for a second surgery, it was supposed to be an easy half hour procedure; simply go in through the urethra and remove the stone.. , it turned out they couldn't find the stone and decided it was best to surgically remove the stone by cutting open the kidney. Unfortunately after this surgery did not go as planned and has now left my mother with 16 staples and a kidney stone. This is how her stay at the Good Samaritan went.. We arrived and the nurses took her into recovery to begin the information and prepping process. Her two caregivers began with her IV, they first inserted the needle into her right hand, which they missed. While still inside her skin began poking around looking for the vein. After a couple yelps of pain they pulled out the needle and began looking for another vein, blaming her for having "hiding veins" due to "fasting and it being cold" (my mom's never had a problem like this before) they attempted once again on her left forearm and missed, then again on her right hand where the woman again propped around while inside her skin to find the vein. Finally they had gotten the IV into place and no longer had to poke her. 3 times it took them to find a vein they found "suitable". The surgery itself took an hour and a half and her being under anesthesia another 4 hours to wake up. When she awoke her pain level was excruciating, we waited for at least 30 minutes before her nurse came to give her pain medication. The doctors decided to keep her overnight. The nursing staff was by far the worst team of individuals I have ever seen. A CNA came in and was followed by another into the room, they began arguing right in front of us about how to use the machines and the paperwork that needed to be filled out. That same CNA also approched my sleeping lethargic mother with a thermometer and tried to insert it in her mouth, she was not awake, he did not try to wake her by simply placing his hand on her shoulder or say a word, when she opened her eyes I could see she was startled (by the time I had reached over to touch her to wake her he'd already had the thermometer at her face and she'd woken up) he was her CNA for the first and second night and he'd only come in twice. Because we lived and hour and a half away I didn't stay the night with her; not that there would've been anywhere in the room to stay. With her procedure my mother could hardly stand let alone walk, yet when she needed to use the restroom the caregiver that came in simply unhooked the IV and walked out. She received no help in getting to and from the restroom. Every time you get up from lying down you have to use your stomach muscles, 16 staples and excruciating pain in her whole abdomen from this pointless surgery and the nurses didn't even bother to help her out of bed to use the restroom. This whole thing sounds like I'm going on and on about nothing but it was honestly the hardest thing to watch. The woman who has always taken care of me in such pain yet I can't do What she needs done, relying on nurses and people whose job it is to help And then do nothing for her. By far the worst experience We've ever had in a hospital. It's a joke of a place really, a sick joke.

The staff on the "holding" (detox?) side are very unorganized. Everytime I called, I got a different reply. No one told me what was going on. When my spouse was admitted, they signed the proper papers for authorizations to speak to me and his doctor, who happens to be on the staff there. We specifically stated to notify the psychiatrist. When I asked if the doctor had seen my spouse, they told me the doctor was not on staff there. Or they never heard of the doctor. The doctor had been on staff at the hospital for years, as I had spoken with the doctor later. The doctor told me the staff over on that side were very unorganized and some of them belonged on the other side of the glass. The second time I went to visit they wouldn't let me in saying I was not on "the guest list." I said I had been there the day before, twice. I had to wait until my spouse signed another authorization form in order for my second visit. My spouse also happens to be a diabetic but was not given the proper food for a diabetic, just normal high carbs and high sugary foods. Low protein foods. My spouse actually left in worse condition than when admitted. The only nice person there was Renee, the front desk receptionist. She deserves a big raise.
