I was not happy with this place. Don't get me wrong everyone was friendly by I was expecting more of a vibe, a mood but nothing. We were seated at a table directly under a TV that was playing loud music and the decor was a plastic dollar tree succulent. Our server did OK but just seemed off. Not sure how to put it but she lacked something. The breakfast menu was limited and offered waffles, French toast, eggs, bacon, home fries, grits, shrimp, chicken strips and drinks which were all OK. But My waffles were hard, they forgot the cheese for my eggs and they only gave two strips of bacon...I love bacon. I would have ordered a side of it but it was $4 for 2 strips...naw at least three strips. I guess we were there at the wrong time. I'll probably return but it was just OK. Our group enjoyed their mimosas though. Parking: We parked in the back of the building but were told street parking is fine on the weekends.
:::Updated::: I really want to speak to the service. 3.5 stars because the service was a turnoff. I was referred to this place by a friend who said the food was really good. Fast forward to Sunday brunch, I arrived with my party - hungry and excited to try their food! Side bar, fun and fresh design Our party stood at the door for about 10 minutes without a greeting. When the hostess/waitress acknowledged us, we were asked how many in our party? Then she proceeded to grab 3 place settings, and placed the settings on the on the edge of the closest table and walked away. None of us wanted to assume that was meant for us, so we stood and waited. About 5 mins later, she came back and asked if we didn’t want to sit there- to which I replied, “we didn’t want to assume that we were supposed to sit here”. Total time from being acknowledged to sitting and getting drink orders in was about 20 minutes. Absolutely NO issues with the waiting- the issue lies with the lack of professionalism. We placed our order and it was another 50 minutes before the food came out. No communication from the waitress about updates on our meals. We had a nice conversation with the table beside us who shared they had eaten the food previously but it was their first experience dining in and the service was not very good. They also mentioned that they had noticed the interaction with us waiting and they way our party was seated. ***It’s also worth mentioning that it was very busy and it didn’t appear that there were enough people working. We all agreed that the lack of service was largely in part to them being swamped.*** When the food finally arrived- we were ready to dig in! The syrups on the plates had a thick film on top which indicated our food had been sitting in the window. I was missing my syrup from my plate and the plating was inconsistent - these things are no big deals to me but since this is a review - it’s worth noting. The side order of grits began to harden on top and on the sides. In the photos, you can see how it’s separated from the sides of the cup. BUT even though the food had been sitting- it was still tasty, I gobbled down my grits and a few of us agreed, “it was worth the wait”. Honestly, it’s been about 4 hours since we ate and I’m still full. I am always in support of local small businesses and we need to support these businesses as much as possible. A word of advice to the owners, invest in your team!! I would highly recommend mandatory courses on workplace professionalism and hospitality. Being in the restaurant/service industry is much more than greet and seat. I am rooting for this establishment!! I hope that when I return at the end of summer- things have shaped up in the service department. Looking forward to updating this review at my next visit and give it 5 stars!!
First time customers. Found this place and he was what I saw on social media. We got their 2 hrs after they open. It wasn't busy. We got mimosa with strawberry. I don't like orange juice. And my fiance had a Hennessey Horizon. The drinks were great. We would of got another but it took so long to get our drinks. We ordered steak and eggs; shrimp and grits. The food took over 40 minutes to come out. It seems everything takes awhile to come out. Might want to consider if your pressed for time. The place has a cool aesthetic vibe and music. Black owned business, go show some love. It was worth it.
I've been here a few times now. The bartender is mediocre. I don't know how you get rude, and attempt to argue with a customer because you made a drink wrong. I don't know, I guess that's a management issue. On another note though, the food is pretty damn good. This might sound odd. However, if you can fry wings hard the first time without drying them out, I'll give it to you. Also, while having a drink at the bar I overheard talk of "formal culinary training" in relation to some of the kitchen staff. It seems to me that they're trying to bring some real upscale flare to a local bar.
As a business consultant, I was pretty impressed by this start up restaurant. There’s always work to do to grow, but so far the culture the company is creating has a chill vibe and they couldn’t have picked any better chefs!! The CHEFS have mastered the art of delicious, esthetically pleasing food!!! So good. Every dish is prepared fresh! I can truly appreciate the wait. I must say, our wait was only 15mins. Quite honestly, Outback takes twice as long. I believe that we as a society have grown extremely impatient these days. If waiting for “fresh,” delicious food is an issue for “you”, this is not the place to eat. It IS however, a great place to unwind, have a delicious meal, vibe to good music, check out some magic, and host a group brunch.
Highly Recommend!!! Best thing to happen to Newport News and the 757 in a long time! Convenient location! Great food! Excellent customer service and worth the drive through the HRBT in traffic! Ms. Tee Vick is very personable and makes sure you feel welcomed. I love the character and atmosphere of the place. Must try the Bang Bang Shrimp Toast !
I came down for Mothers Day, and had a blast. Thus restaurant is perfect for ANY occasion or group of people. The staff is awesome, and super friendly. They had magician walking around to all the tables which was really freaking cool! The manager was also walking around and checking on tables, which was incredible. The food is also phenomenal!!! I ordered the Chicken egg and cheese waffle sandwich and was blown away!! The portion sizes are amazing, and everything tasted wonderful. We had such a fun time, that when the check came, we were so surprised at how affordable everything was. I expected to pay twice as much then I did. I will definitely be back with my friends un the very near future!!!!
Very good food but they definitely have a kitchen management issue. My table of four waited 50 minutes before receiving our food and to make the wait worse most of our food was cold. On my plate everything besides the eggs were cold. The taste and flavors of the food were good so this place definitely has potential. Hopefully they can improve their service.
Went in today. Food tasted great honestly. I mean was sad by the cheap cheese but it was still great. The service was lacking. If you ask a customer if they need anything while you’re walking away is bad service. The bathrooms were dirty and like the wall was falling apart. My 2 stars are from the fact that the drinks never got refilled despite my colleagues tea being empty. The waitress seemed distant and unbothered. She did help when asked but was still really bad “I don’t wanna be here or serve you vibes”. And I got back and started getting sick. Sadly got food poisoning. Puking and a fever. I feel awful. We went for lunch. This is def not a place you’ll ever see me at again.
This place has a long way to go. My first time here was a couple of months ago. I didn’t want to leave a review since this was a new establishment and I had a mediocre experience. So, my friend and I came here after seeing this place HEAVILY promoted on their social media platforms. Our waiter was nice but literally took forever. So we ordered a hookah while we waited for our food. About 20 mins later he comes back and says they were pretty much out of everything…. Literally about an hour after opening. So we tried to order drinks, which again they promoted soooooo many different types of “cool” drinks on their social media platform. Only to be told that they don’t offer drinks yet, only mimosas EVEN THOUGH IT WAS PROMOTED ON THEIR IG. I ordered the fish and grits and they weren’t bad. Ok so fast forward to last weekend. The restaurant was empty. Literally 5 tables filled max. Once you walk in, the hostess told us that it would be 1 HOUR BEFORE WE GET OUR FOOD AFTER ORDERING. again, trying to give this place a chance, my friend and I said we’ll order hookah and drinks and hopefully by then the food will be out. We literally sat at our table for 20 mins and no one came to our table. There was a table directly next to us and the waitress came there about 2 times and even looked us in our faces and never acknowledged us. Another waitress saw us and turned back around. NOT ONE PERSON WAITED ON US. We just got up and left. 2x we tried to support this place. But it’s literally just not the move. We ended up going across the water to CANVAS ON GRANBY. Canvas has food, vibes, hookah and amazing service. Don’t waste your time at Greenyard… seriously.
