E. Carlson is a conscientious and fair administrator and the school continues to improve. Staff and associates are skilled, earnest and seem to do their best. The school is in a lovely setting, has a terrific garden, and spacious grounds, and I hear very few (if any) complaints about it from anyone. Parents seem to be involved too, and that's an important factor regarding "getting it done."

The principle mrs Carlson picked on my children wanted to make sure they all were failers. And in her investigation my son had his hat on. That was another referral. A stack of them daily. My son wad honor roll. But during graduation he was not acknowledged. I requested that she send me his honor roll just to get it I had to pay for the postage. Because of her belittling constant picking on him he rebeld in high school as to if there was no positive roll model for him. To her like g he was expelled. I took him to the jc to get his deploma . He got it in a snap. I dont ever think I can forgive her .

We love Guerneville Elementary. The school serves 302 students grades K-8, so it's small enough to feel connected, but large enough to offer a variety of activities. The teachers, principal, staff, & administrators are experienced & deeply committed. The parents & general community are extremely caring & involved. Friends of Guerneville School (FOGS) works hard to raise funds for all of our extracurricular activities.Like parents everywhere, I wish our district had more money. But ... Despite the challenges of our rural location & low income levels, we manage to provide all sorts of high-quality activities, including an environmental education program (tending a garden & preparing & eating the food); art, music, dance, PE,. band, soccer, softball, homework help, & computer education; field trips to various locations including the Science museum in SF' Safari West, local farms, Mrs. Grossman's Sticker Factory, & a free after school program. Remember that test scores do NOT tell the whole story about the quality of a school (though 6 out of 10 does put us above average). Some of our students are low-income, at-risk, still learning English, &/or have learning differences. Yet Guerneville Elementary does a great job with mainstreaming these kids while honoring everyone's unique differences, personalities, & talents. As a parent who volunteers in the classroom & knows many of the children, knowing that most of them will journey through childhood together makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside.
