Mission

The mission of The Guidance Center, Inc. is to provide accessible and effective outpatient behavioral health services to the residents of St. Bernard, Orleans, and Jefferson Parish. Our approach is client centered and solution focused with the goal of achieving specific outcomes as defined by the client.

Products

Individual, Family, and Group counseling
Outpatient services address mental health conditions, addiction, and co-occurring disorders. These services are available in St. Bernard, Jefferson, and Orleans Parish.

School-Based Counseling, Education Coordination, and Diagnostic Assessments
School-Based services link schools with the counseling services provided through The Guidance Center, Inc. It provides services to families that may not seek services otherwise and gives an on-site referral source for the school as an adjunct to their work with children. With a designated Education Coordinator to be the main source of contact for the schools, it allows The Guidance Center, Inc. to facilitate a collaborative approach for effective interventions to address school related problems while enriching home-based therapy with the client's family.

Psychiatric Evaluations and Medication Management
Psychiatric treatment and medication maintenance can be important in an individual's recovery process. Medical professionals trained in behavioral health offer psychiatric services and medication monitoring as part of a client's treatment team.

Referral and Linkage Services
Our team of professional staff is able to recommend other services in the community that may be of assistance to individuals in our programs. We can often provide resources regarding education, recreation, social skills, employment resources, and other community services.

Crisis Intervention
Crisis intervention services are provided to clients who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis. A clinician will conduct a preliminary assessment of risk, mental status, medical stability, and the need for further evaluations or mental health services. Including communication with the client, family members or others with pertinent information may be contacted for the purpose of the assessment. A follow up with the individual and family members, along with a consultation with physicians or qualified providers are conducted to assist with the client's specific crisis.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR)
PSR services are designed to assist clients deal with interpersonal and/or environmental barriers. Individualized treatment plans are created to achieve the identified goals and objectives as set by the client. The intent of PSR is to restore the fullest possible integration of the client as an active and productive member of their family and community with the least amount of professional intervention. PSR is a face-to-face service with the client, and will often occur in community locations where the client lives, attends school, socializes, or works.
