Dr. Nathan Jurgena and and Dr. Davis have been doing a wonderful job of treating my cat. They have really gone above and beyond to insure that he is getting the best care. Dr. Jurgena even helped me to find a compounding pharmacy to get my cat's medicine in pill form rather that the usual syrup form. Thanks!

We called them on a Tuesday evening around 6pm asking to bring our dog in right away because we knew that whatever was wrong with him was serious. They told us to bring him right in and they took great care of him! They knew exactly what they were doing, only charged us $140 and were so patient with him. It is the next morning and he is eating and playing and back to his old self. Thank you so much!

My girlfriend and I took her cat to Hawthorne. It was very ill, not eating or drinking. We get in and finally a doctor comes in and feels of the cats stomach and leaves the room. A girl comes in afterward with a itemize list of charges totaling $1200 BEFORE we even know what is wrong. We are told that the $1200 must be paid before they will go any further so my girlfriend of course hands over a charge card because this is her 4 legged child and they (Hawthorne) just prey on that. So they take Willy and say they will need to keep her overnight. The next day they still do not know what is wrong but insist she stay overnight again. Of course it cost more money. The next day my girlfriend goes to see Willy and find out what is wrong. They tell her they are not sure but recommend she put Willy down. She calls me and I go there. They put Willy down and STILL charge her another $450. DON"T GO THERE! They are all about the money and could care less about your pets. There is no reason for all of those charges to be so high. If it wasn't for my girlfriend I would have demanded her money back but she was already so upset I did not want to upset her anymore than she was. Places like this sicken me and I will tell everyone I know to stay clear of here. There are other pet hospitals open after hours. One is in Collinsville. Go anywhere but here.

We brought our 15 year old Chihuahua in a couple days ago because she had trouble breathing and couldn't stand up on her own. We knew she had heart failure but we were doing our best to help her enjoy the life she had. We arrived at Hawthorne and they took her back and put her on oxygen. The nurse met with us and we gave her the symptoms she had. A few minutes later we met with Dr. Nathan Jurgena. He told us he had a gut feeling she had a heart failure, which we already knew, but wanted to do an xray. We knew she was suffering and we didn't want to put her though the torture. The doctor however prescribed 3 medications for her: Lasix, Vetmedin and Enalapril. He said it would improve her breathing and be able to cope with everything. We asked him if it would improve her overall problem and he didn't have a response. We didn't want to prolong her life if it was going to cause her to suffer. Hawthorne doesn't see it that way. A few moments later a nurse came in and went over the options we had. We could pay $1000 to have her stay at the hospital over night and to monitor her and give her medication. The 2nd option was to take her home and give her injections and the medications. We chose to take her home and spent $600 for the two hours we were there. After returning home, we gave her the medications and it made her worse. She was basically paralyzed and her breathing was going downhill. My wife slept with her by her side all night crying because we didn't think she was going to make it. She couldn't even eat or drink water let alone take the 3 pills they prescribed her to take. We ended up having to put her down the next day. It's been a very emotional day for both of us. The question we have is, why wouldn't the doctor be up front and honest with us and tell us from the beginning that she wasn't going to make it? Instead we ended up paying $600 for medication/treatment that made her worse. Even when we left, the clerk was making jokes on how much money we owed. This place is highway robbery and for a family that is dealing with an old and sick pet, it's unacceptable.
