Founded in 1958, Hennen’s Auto Service handles the automotive repair and new tire needs of customers in Shakopee, Prior Lake, and Savage, MN, as well as the Southwest Metro Area.
Hennen’s Auto Service, located at 807 1st Avenue East, has been part of Shakopee, MN for the last 57 years as an auto repair center and tire dealer. Since the beginning, our business has been focused on building strong customer relationships and providing the highest quality of workmanship on each and every automotive repair.
Jerry Hennen Sr. founded Hennen’s Auto Service in 1958. A hard-working man, he had started other business ventures before moving to Shakopee and buying his own Skelly Station. Customer service was very important to Jerry and he founded his business on knowing his customers and treating them well. That tradition carries on today.
In the early days, the station was open every day from 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM while Jerry’s two sons, Jerry Jr. and Jack, worked long hours with him. They provided full-service gas and only minor auto repairs. Jerry Jr. and Jack became partners in the business in the 1970s.
The 1980s were a decade of changes. In 1981, Jerry Jr. and Jack moved the business to a new building, leaving their First and Sommerville location to go a few blocks east to our current site. The station changed brands to become an Inter City Oil (I.C.O.) station. Within a few years, Jack became sole owner when Jerry Jr. moved on to other business ventures. Over time, more services were offered, including propane sales and U-Haul truck rentals.
Dan Thielen was hired as an auto technician in 1982. Dan was instrumental in expanding the service department to include major repairs. As the business grew, Dan became service manager, a role in which he continues today. Jack Hennen’s youngest son, Joel, joined the service department full-time as an automotive technician in 1989.
The station rebranded with Texaco and underwent expansion in 1988, adding three service bays for a total of five, along with a car wash and new fuel tanks and gas pumps.
The third generation of ownership began in 2009 when Joel took over ownership and continued the family owned and operated business. You may even see the fourth generation, Jack, around the station helping out from time to time. Joel renovated the store front, giving customers a variety of shopping items and a place to wait for their service work to be completed.
The latest changes came in 2013 when the station rebranded to Minnoco, providing top-tier fuels and continuing to provide top-quality service.
