Heritage Discovery Center

About

Preserving our heritage, revitalizing our community through the Johnstown Discovery Network.

Story

Today JAHA owns and operates four museums: the Heritage Discovery Center, Johnstown Children's Museum, Johnstown Flood Museum, and Wagner-Ritter House & Garden. They are linked geographically and thematically in the Johnstown Discovery Network, which also includes attractions (such as the Inclined Plane) owned by other entities, and historic districts such as the National Historic Districts of Downtown Johnstown and Cambria City.

Mission

JAHA is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the nationally significant historic heritage of the Greater Johnstown Area through its museum facilities, historical collection, and education programs. JAHA operates as a clearinghouse and catalyst for revitalization efforts based on cultural tourism and historic preservation.

It was set up very well. The 3rd floor or kids area was good for small and big kids. It was very interesting to see how immigrants lived. And they showed it very well. It my was first visit but definitely won't be my last.

Immigration tour very poor. Media did not work. Steel tour awesome.

Offers an in depth view of the immigrant experience in the Johnstown, PA area, a children's activity area (best for younger kids, say pre-school to maybe 2nd grade), and a history of the city's iron and steel works which is actually pretty interesting. If you have an hour or two go ahead and make the stop.
