Dr. Buckwalter came highly recommended and I was not one bit disappointed. He gave me thorough explanations of my X-rays, like I had never experienced with any other dentist. Kelly, the hygienist, was very detailed and gave me an excellent cleaning and exam. The entire staff were extremely kind and welcoming . I highly recommend Dr. Buckwalter and his staff.

Our entire family goes here and we couldn't be happier. Before an appointment, my 8 year old told us, "I love going to the dentist. Dr. Ryan is so nice!". My experience as a child was quite different. :) The staff there is friendly and caring and the doc is very knowledgeable. I would not consider using another dentist.

In the years I have lived here, I have had mediocre dentist appointments in Charlottesville, not because of any fear of the dentist or even unexpected pain, but because I have felt belittled and patronized by another local dentist. Since I have switched over to Hillcrest Dental, I have been incredibly pleased with the staff, their professionalism and the courtesy with which I am treated. Dr. Buckwalter spends significant time answering my questions, educating me on the "why" behind the physiology of my teeth & their function. He is thorough in his exam, he is patient with my questions, and his staff is extremely helpful. I could not be more pleased with this health care professional and his team. I have and will continue to recommend his practice to newcomers.

I agree that the new place isn't as private as desirable (I could hear more than I perhaps should), but I'm so satisfied with the quality of the work and friendliness of the staff that it doesn't prevent me from giving 5 stars.

I live in Atlanta so this is not my normal dentist. It was easy to ask them on their website if they would accept my insurance provider, and they had an time slot to get me in within a week of my email. Once I got in, I was treated well, and the procedure was quick (especially for 4 fillings) and painless. Dr. Buckwalter was nice and helped explain everything to me, not just about my procedure but also tooth health in general. Took an hour and I was done. Very happy. The out of pocket payment was pretty expensive, but I'm not sure if that was an insurance issue, or their pricing.
