I recently visited Homestate in Highland Park and had a fantastic experience. The tacos were delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly. The prices were reasonable and the coffee was great as well. I will definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommend checking this place out!Food: 4/5
If you like breakfast tacos, this place is for you. They have a large variety of tacos, plus a number of other brunch selections. I particularly like that they have an outdoor patio where you can eat at shaded tables. They have a number of locations. We went to their place in Highland Park. We ordered a selection of tacos, including the neches ,- eggs, black beans, and cheese -, the pecos - eggs and brisket - , and the Tijuana panther - with brisket, queso, and potatoes. I had the classic migas - which was a large serving of scrambled eggs tossed with corn tortillas, onion, and cheese. I got the added avocado. This is very filling and very good. We also got an order of crispy potatoes with a small side of both guac and queso. Everything was hot and tasty. This is a particularly good place if you have small children. The food is straightforward, and there is something even for a fussy eater. The outdoor patio makes it easy for them to run around a bit. They have drip coffee, tea, juice and sodas. Plus booze if you want it. I really like this inexpensive restaurant. I highly recommend it.
Tried their tacos again, after years, because even though I told my friend they're sort of gringo tacos and not great, he went to get some anyway. What's inside of these so-called tacos is kind of decent. I'm truly not trying to be an ass when I say the fillings are like upscale frozen dinner fillings brisket? for instance, and some kind of ground beef NO heat or acid, wrapped in a semi-decent but oh so slightly soggy tortilla. WHY? Why friends WHY would you go for these tacos in a place like Los Angeles that offers so many stellar alternatives?
Delicious breakfast tacos and coffee in a cozy atmosphere! My favorite was the trinity taco. I got flour tortillas and they were super fresh and fantastic vessels for the breakfast taco.Food: 5/5
Having tried the San Diego location, I was excited to try this location as well. This location had better service and tastier food. Overall the vibe was great. My one disappointment with both locations was that the sauces are so watery. They don't stand up to the tacos much so you cant really taste them. Homestate is a decent place for sure, just a tad on the pricey side
the potato tacos are outstanding, paired with frozen margaritas, you have the recipe for a winning evening.Food: 5/5
Outside seating with mosquitoes and flies. Wood picnic tables dirty and small Dogs allowed Our order: 2 small margaritas, 1 IPA, 1 small lemonade 5 tacos, 1 chx salad, sweet? fries, small quesadilla Margarita with 1/2 shot of tequila Very small tacos, good flavor though Good flavor and size for the salad Sweet fries were not sweet and were terrible…served cold with what tasted like Velveeta Super expensive for what was served $150 + tip
Decent Tex Mex with a bustling vibe and a nice outdoor patio. I just don't get the appeal of Tex Mex in a place like LA, where some of the best tacos money can buy are just down the street. These rollup tacos are a sad excuse and overpriced for what they are. Still, a solid queso dip and delicious lemonade if that's what you're after--but someone please explain to me why TEX MEX is popular in hipster town LA!
Palomas were very good, some items such as texas toast brisket sandwich and frito pie were very tasty, but others such as picadillo and chicken were under seasoned. Portions are smaller than expected for the price. Service was great, both at the counter and seating areas.
Great tasting breakfast tacos. Small seating area inside but a nice outdoor alley type patio. Food is quickly served. Tried the Guadalupe breakfast taco and the brisket taco. Wife got chorizo amigas. We got extra brisket tacos cause they were THAT GOOD. Green salsa is spicy and citrusy, red a milder salsa. Beer on tap and bottle plus full bar. They also serve Paloma’s which I am a huge fan. Will go back soon to try.
