Following Jesus Together
Jesus Made Us To Make Disciples. Disciples Are Made In Biblical Community.
Why “Following Jesus Together”? We’d love to tell you…
As we read the Scriptures, our understanding is that God’s purpose for the local church is best summarized in the word “Discipleship”. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the first synonym of “Disciple” is “Follower”; and that is exactly what we are, followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that all of the purposes God has given us, such as to glorify God, to care for those in need, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to proclaim the good news of Jesus around the world, and to obey His commands are bound together in this one idea of following Jesus.
At Hope Church, we also find it instructive that when Jesus called the original twelve disciples, He did not call them to a life of following Him by themselves, but with one another, in fellowship – together. The rest of Scripture makes it plain: God’s design for His people is not that they would be a loose association of believing individuals, but a body bound to one another in love, grace and truth. And so that is our vision for this body as well: to follow Jesus, and to follow Jesus.
