What a phenomenal establishment. I'm glad we finally made it to this place because it did not disappoint. We got drinks, tips 'n toast, horse fries, and shrimp and grits. All dishes were fresh and absolutely delicious! The vibe is second to none and adds to the experience. The mystery beer selection was fun and the ice cream was unexpectedly fantastic! Book your reservation ahead of time...this place is popular for a reason!
I had a great night at Horse Inn with some friends over the weekend, we got seated very quickly even with no reservation and a wait. The service was great from both the waitress and the waiter/bartender. The food was great, the atmosphere was great and the drinks were good too. My friend and I enjoyed getting their "mystery beer" for $2 and seeing what we would get.
A historic speakeasy, you can’t go wrong. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn’t have reservations so we had to wait so we got drinks at the bar. Bartenders are fantastic. We ordered the horse fries which were so tasty. If we didn’t have to wait we probably wouldn’t have ordered them. So glad we did. We both enjoyed the cheeseburger. They were perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was great they had a band the night we went. Definitely make reservations if you are in a time scheduled. We will definitely return.
Super cool setting, but the food was disappointing, for the price. The gravy in the chicken and dumplings was watery and overly salty, so it seemed more like a soup than the creamy comfort food I was anticipating. My favorite part was the side salad that we ordered with a cheeseburger. The honey lemon vinegarette was excellent.Food: 3/5
Best kept secret in Lancaster. I've been going there for literally 50 years. It's a Lancaster institution! Amazing cocktails, great atmosphere like you've never seen anywhere before. Oh, and did I mention they have the best wings in Lancaster?? You have GOT to try the Horse!!!Food: 5/5
Great experience. This doesn't look like anything from the outside but you go upstairs to a large bar and dining area. This was a speakeasy and is now known for excellent drinks and tasty food. Had a delicious glass of wine, and shared wings and the 'Horse fries' which were incredible. No pics taken.Food: 5/5
They know what they’re doing! This has been my boyfriend’s favorite restaurant for a long time and it was finally my turn to experience it! The atmosphere is incredible, you feel like you’re in a different time. The food and drinks are some of the best around Lancaster. My boyfriend got the signature tips and toast and I got the fettuccini! We also shared the burrata as an app and the bread was phenomenal! There was also live jazz music, which was the cherry on top. We’ll definitely be back.
A lot of missed opportunities for our entree selections. We had wings as an appetizer - we did not order them fried hard but they were. Hubby ordered the burger and fries get the fries!!!? They're amazing and although the burger was good, it was cumbersome with excess bread. I ordered the mussels and the chorizo lacked flavor; it was rather bland. For the chorizo to be house made, lots of opportunities to improve and give this item a full flavor profile. Atmosphere was good with two men playing live music. Service was slower than I like. She appeared to be overextended and checked on us once. Then we sat and waited ten minutes to get our check to leave. I forgot to mention they automatically add a TIPS FOR THE KITCHEN. So if that offends your senses, this might not be the place for you.
Here's our menu for the night: horse fries and turnip appetizers; gemelli, two steak tips, and the chicken dumplings entrees; pot de creme, honeycomb ice cream, and fluffernutter pie. EVERYTHING was phenomenal. Add in some mystery can beers for fun, cocktails and bubbly cava, and much merriment was had. The food was prepared and delivered with excellence, no complaints. The service was great- present and helpful but not overbearing. The atmosphere was perfect for the holidays with some live piano. We've loved the Horse Inn for many years. We go for special events as the total bill for 4 people was over $280- nothing wrong with that, but set your expectations.
If Zero were an option I would leave it because of the way we were treated. I tried to make a reservation for 4 for my sons birthday and was told we had to be a walk in before 8:30. My husband son and myself arrived upon opening to start on drinks and appetizers until my daughter in law would arrive and join us for drinks. We were seated at a round table in the front with no menus or drink orders taken. Then the hostess came and said we could not sit there and made us leave the table and gave it to a family of 2 adults and 2 children . No apologies and then told us we could NOT be seated until the 4th person arrived. Even though we were ready to order. When I questioned her she said she was sorry and she promised we would be seated upon her arrival. She arrived 10 minutes later, the hostess then told us to please wait and seated several other parties and left us standing on the side. When I asked again when we would be seated,she said we would have to wait 1.5 hours. I have never been treated so poorly in my life at ANY restaurant. I wavered about posting this for a few weeks but decided other people, AND the manager should know about it. At that point, it was too late to go elsewhere. The evening was ruined!
