Classic Chinatown restaurant. It is an old feeling establish with dated decor. Upstairs, there's karaoke. The menu is mainly family style dishes or hot pot. There's only one page for noodles and rice dishes on the menu for single diners. I had the spicy wonton with chili oil $10 and a seafood pan fried noodle $15. The spicy wontons is low on spice heat scale but good spicy. My crispy Hong Kong style noodles had good wok flavor with huge pieces of fish, shrimps and squid. The only drawback is they drowned it in sauce making it not crispy anymore. Rookie mistake. Service was excellent as I was the only downstairs customer at 9:30pm. Well done staff at Hunan House.
There are 6 potstickers per plate, but my friend and I dugged in before I realized I hadn't taken a photo yet lol. Very good. I got the wonton dumplings, and we shared the potstickers and Shanghai steamed dumplings. He got the combo fried rice and loved it! We loved our food! Great service too!Food: 5/5
This is an old and unclean Chinese restaurant. The fried noodle was delicious, but the chicken was terrible. Waiters were unmotivated.Food: 2/5
Good food, fast waitresses. Made disabled accommodations easily. Normal hole in the wall decor. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access.
Food: Pretty good. We ordered a lot of dishes and the Ginger and Scallion Lamb was our favorite. It was really well seasoned and sometimes crispy. The only bad dish was the Garlic Pork with bamboo since for me it had a bad aftertaste. Service: if you don't speak any Chinese or Cantonese might be a bit difficult. The restaurant itself also had a cigarette smell cause of the other customers. Recommendation, get take out! Food is pretty good
Although the food was good I had the sesame chicken and the customer service was great, my biggest complaint is the restaurant's atomphere. There was a weird smell in the air not sure what but it was mixed with a cigarette small and little gnats flying around which was annoying. The booths were also a little tight and uncomfortable for a group of 3. Additionally, there were people constantly walking by carrying crates and equipment looked like for deliveries and at one point someone walked their dog through there was a staircase that looked like it led to an apartment - that's where the person and their dog went. I understand that sometimes businesses have to pick up deliveries during restaurant hours but this just made it difficult for me to get comfortable and enjoy my meal. Lastly, the bathroom was filty and the facet barely worked, which was a bit concerning. Overall, I bumped this up to 3 stars because the wait staff was so friendly and the food was better than I expected. It's just too bad that other aspects not related to these 2 things made it hard to enjoy my meal.
We visited this place during our road trip to San Francisco with a thought that this place might be a good choice since it’s not easy to make authentic Hunan food. It was stem winding, really, along with their quick serving and perfect seasoning. We only ordered two dishes, Mapo tofu and sweet and sour pork due to low attendance, however, those two dishes were very tasty for eating rice with. I have been Hunan so I know what I’m talking about. Also it’s shocking that the owner is actually from Hong Kong.
Food is good, but the atmosphere is very uncomfortable. Definitely didn't feel welcome as an average non Asian American. While we were here a couple came in to pick up their take out, and the restaurant told them they had to leave and couldn't eat it there, it was very uncomfortable. Service was non existent for us, but very involved for all else, we were the only non Chinese there Food was good, but I would steer clear if you aren't Chinese, I could almost physically feel that we were not welcome... I did enjoy the large display of Taiwanese and American Flags right out the front door, super cool looking!
It’s pretty authentic Chinese food here. As someone who spent her time in Hunan in the summer and winter holidays, I would say this is excellent. You’ve got the deep fire, the bombastic taste and ancient murals on the wall. It’s old and generations. They got the Lao Huo old fire burning here. I like their pork belly rice plate. It comes with soup. Make sure you ask for it :
This place used to be good. Too bad to see the place in a shamble. Won't be going back.Food: 2/5
