We had made reservations for a special occasion and were looking forward to an evening of good food, good wine and fantastic company - we weren't disappointed. Our server was "Saavy" and she was pleasant, professional and served our food in a way that we were able to enjoy each course without feeling rushed. We started with the bruschetta and the beet salad, both of which have never disappointed us yet! Our entrees were prepared to perfection and everyone left the table satisfied and full. We recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a place that has a pleasant ambiance, a relaxed time for enjoying food, and who can appreciate that prices reflect not only the food, but the service and the ambiance as well. We love Il Sugo and it has become our favorite Meridian neighborhood Italian food place!
Il Sugo used to be downtown Boise but they moved to Meridian. The owners have decorated the place with old Italian charm and the food is excellent!! Once seated you get bread with olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce. This is a limited menu but I believe we have eaten everything on the menu and never a disappointment. Our waiter Antonio as usual is amazing!! I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of the food! You will not be disappointed!
We enjoyed our meal! Beef rib ravoloi is delicious! Beet salad is so unique and good. Save room for the cheesecake because it's top notch you have to try it.
We had a really great experience at il Sugo. The atmosphere is nice and our server was great. The bread is very yummy and paired well with everything. The salad was delicious with large shavings of parmesean and it was HUGE to which I was really grateful for because it meant I saved half of my entrée for lunch the next day - BONUS! We got the Tortufo to which I salted to taste and the Hay Hay Special. The red sauce was was tart and tasty. It is a bit on the expensive side - for 2 people we had 2 cocktails, an appetizer, 2 entrées and salads for $76. All in all, we enjoyed it and will definitely be returning.
Had the Bruschetta and il Surgo. The Bruschetta was excellent. I loved the fresh tomatoes and the bread had a crisp yet not over hard. That was the highlight of my visit and will bring me back. The Caesar salad was drowning in dressing. The il Surgo was Ok. It was a thick creamy white sauce with pork which I like in texture however taste was a little bland. I wanted a little more pop to it. There was just something missing and I can't put my finger on it. The waiting bread was very dry and hard. As for cost it was $10 for appetizers. $16 to $25 for main dishes. I will let you decide if that expensive or just right. Portions were no not too large or to small. I thought when we got there was very nice however it got busy and the seating was tight so we were banging chairs with the people behind us. The waitress was nice. I do want to try again with a red sauce dish because the Bruschetta was so good. Their meatballs looked really good.
Alright first what we got, beef short rib ravioli, chicken parm, filet mignon Alfredo, and Italian sausage Alfredo. First note, noodles were the best part of every dish almost. They were obviously fresh and well cooked. That is always a great thing when 90% of your dishes are noodle based lol. The ravioli was my personal choice and tho a tad bit salty it was really amazing. I finished that dang thing and I feel disgusting right now due to how full I am. It honestly was great. The only negative thing was how the steak was cut and cooked in the filet mignon Alfredo, it just seemed kinda randomly sliced and definitely well done. Still it was thoroughly enjoyed. Now service wise it was obviously a Togo order. When I ordered in I thought I ordered 4 entrees and didn’t catch it when paying the bill. They accidentally forgot one of the dishes but I honestly couldn’t remember if I had ordered it or not, went back inside and saw I didn’t pay for it so I was happy to just go home and share with someone. However once I went back to my car after letting them know, the I believe owner or lead ran out to my car, said hey we made a mistake, and gave me not only the dish I had previously ordered but also a little dessert to say sorry. I didn’t make a scene, didn’t ask for it, but was treated very well. He was memorable and kind as we spoke for a little bit when I was waiting for the order. It was a great experience and I will try it again for sure. I know some reviews from a year or up to month ago have been weirdly negative but I couldn’t see why in my own visit. 10/10
The ambiance of the whole restaurant was so fun! And the food was absolutely amazing. The bruschetta was delicious. I tried the chicken tortellini, did not disappoint! Highly recommend!
The food was good but i just don't like it when servers keep on trying to take the food away every time she passes the table and then we had to always say "still working on it"...but i plan to come back to try other items on the menu
First recommendation would be to take the less-than-positive reviews with a grain of salt pardon the pun. Last night was our first time at Il Sugo Italian in Meridian there were 6 in our party. It was absolutely delicious and authentic, for sure. I wasn't that hungry, so I only had two orders of their mussels appetizer. The order included 12-13 decently sized mussels and ground/chopped Italian sausage, garlic, white wine, tomatoes and parsley. I shared the order with my guests, of course. I also had the opportunity to taste their deconstructed lasagna off of their "specials" menu. It was VERY good! The service was excellent and our server, Kirsten, was on top of everything. She also had an impressive grasp of how their dishes are made, the ingredients, etc.; unlike some servers who sometimes respond "I don't know. I can ask?" All six of us loved the food and the overall experience. We highly recommend! ** Please note that the restaurant has a policy to add an 18% gratuity for parties of 6 which, in my experience, is not industry standard. The restaurant DOES point this out on their menu and the servers DO highlight it on the receipt, however, it can be easy to miss since it may not be expected. My suggestion to the owners is to adjust this policy to parties of 8+. Other than that, please don't change a thing!!**
We randomly stopped in to try something new and we were very pleased. From the host, to the waitress, to Grant the owner... They were all amazing! We ordered the beet salad which was delicious along with filet mignon fettuccine where the meat was super tender and the fettuccine was extremely fresh! We look forward to going back soon.
