Story

Ithaca Agway & True Value started in 1920 as the premier store for the GLF (Grange League Federation), a farmers’ cooperative existing for the good of its customers. It provided the goods that family farmers needed at an affordable price.

While the world has changed a lot since then, Ithaca Agway has not forgotten its roots. We strive to have the products you need to get your home and work projects done, along with providing the knowledge you need about how to get the job done.

A customer described us best when he said our service was the closest to an old-time general store that he has ever seen. This general store serves the basic needs of farmers, homeowners, landscapers, and contractors, as well as modern-day customers looking for natural / holistic pet food, organic plant foods or pest control, and the newest varieties of perennials and annuals. Every time I go to Agway, I find the staff wonderfully helpful.Whether shopping garden/planting, home repair, pet supplies, new tools or tool repair - whatever - I always find someone knowledgeable and helpful to guide me to a wise an reasonably priced solution.

In brief: disappointing customer service. I like supporting smaller or local businesses when possible. I've had positive experiences here in the past, but today was a different story. My wife and I arrived at 3:50pm unaware the store closed at 4. We were looking at mulch in the parking lot and standing near a sales associate whom never mentioned the close time. It was 3:58 when we tried to walk inside to make our purchase. We knew what we wanted, it was all ready to go outside, and were willing to pay cash and leave. Rather than simply telling us they close at 4 (and allowing us to check out quickly), two workers told us rudely that they close at 4 every Saturday and said the registers were already shut down. (We could see inside that the last couple of customers were still checking out.) It's disappointing that their response lost them our business to Lowes both today and for all future projects.

My first time in store. Was asked by staff if I needed help. Had what I wanted. Staff are friendly and helpful

Call ahead if you're looking for something because at any given moment Cornell could swoop in and buy them out of something! In general, their selection isn't great - but it's okay. Prices are fairly reasonable and the staff are friendly. Their hours are terrible - they close at 6pm outside of summer and 4pm on Sundays. If you need something, don't wait to go in - call and get down to the store asap!
