Story

Computer science combines the intellectual challenge of a new discipline with the excitement of being part of an innovative and rapidly expanding technology. The Jackson State University (JSU) Department of Computer Science was established in 1972 as a part of the Division of Natural Sciences. Over the years, our growth has accelerated steadily making us currently one of the largest departments at the University.

Mission

The mission of the Computer Science Department is to seek students who share our appreciation and desire for intellectual inquiry and challenge in order to provide learning experiences and activities designed to help students choose and initiate successful careers in any area of Computer Science that will contribute to the social, cultural and economical development of the state and the nation.

Jackson State University is only THEE BEST HBCU in the world. As you may have guessed, JSU is my alma mater. My dear, old, college home! I love Jackson State with everything in me. I would recommend that anyone attend an institution such as the one I love soooo dearly. Don't get me wrong, it has just many cons..but the pros surely outnumber them. I have met many lovable, unforgettable people during my matriculation through JSU. And I wouldn't change it for the world!

The students are friendly. Professors are cool, but the rest of the staff (most, but not all) are unorganized. I’ve heard that some professors are prejudice & talk to their students in disrespectful manners, but fortunately, I haven’t come across a professor like that yet. If you’re seeking help, chances are the workers are too lazy to help out. You have to know important staff members for anyone to actually do their job. The school is also in a dangerous area.

I went here for a state science fair competition, and it was absolutely horrible. They were 1 hour behind schedule, and the judges were terrible. The judges were unqualified and didn't seem like they wanted to be there. They did not pay attention to students and seem disinterested. The judges were also undergraduate college students, so they did not understand the complicated projects and also was a bit biased.

this school is the worse ever in ever sense of it all.  i never witness such mindset group of leaders before.  talks down to the students and are never available.   THEY ARE NOT RATED AS HIGH AS YOU SEE ON THESE REVIEWS APPARENTLY THEY ARE REMOVING THE NEGATIVE ONES.   BECAUSE WHY IS THE ENROLLMENT DROP.  I WOULD GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF I WAS NOT STUCK HERE ANOTHER SEMESTER

If you are using a GI Bill I would go elsewhere. Unless you have the money up front to pay for the class. The GI Bill usually processes a payment a month after classes start and every college I encountered understood the process but not JSU. They want you to pay up front and get reimbursed later. Who knows how that process will work out. Either the school don't recognize the process is process is broken or don't care to fix it. You talk to their staff and they state that's just Jackson State process. SMH disappointing. More to the story but I don't have that much time to write. In my opinion this not Not a military friendly school.
