Terrible staffing. Releases a patient with no shoes/ no coat in 22 degree weather. Police not contacted until he is seen at a gas station. Staff sends rude personable messages to people spreading awareness about this situation. Would not recommend as the staff makes a hospital and they have in fact ruined the name of this one.
The occupational and physical therapy branch is great. The walk-in clinic is great and needs to stay open. The emergency room is ok as long as you're not femme presenting, or struggling with any sort of mental health needs or neurodivergence. There are plenty of services and providers here that I haven't tried and it's entirely possible that there are great service providers here. However, the culture at JCHC is not trauma informed, they are regularly dismissive / unclear, and they struggle to communicate and understand their patients. I have experienced this and heard this from dozens of friends as well as having my own myriad of experiences with the hospital. ******** I am giving an extra star for the walk-in clinic. They are the best part of this place. If you can get past the abysmal telephone & interpersonal experiences, and make it to urgent care, you'll find the best and most efficient part of this place. ******** My child was stabbed in the nose by a malicious, light skinned Caucasian nurse during a scheduled pediatric visit, when my child was already ill and in distress. We've had a dozen or more Covid tests. We're extremely familiar with the drill. However, this particular nurse was different. I'd had negative experiences with her once or twice before, but I hoped THOSE were her bad days. No, her bad days got much worse apparently. I was holding my child who was nervous, but after about 20 seconds, she was calm for the experience. The nurse - stabbed - my child in the nose. There's no other word for it. My child's face immediately turned red, as it does when you break the sensitive tissues right next to the brain. My child was crying, screaming in agonizing pain immediately. I was shocked and horrified. I told the other nurse after a few minutes of comforting my kid. The other nurse brought us to the checkout and the director vice president? Idk the title came over, got my name and number, promised an investigation, and we never heard from them again. The problematic nurse: I can't recall their name, but they were about 5' tall, caucasian, medium build, and white, silver, bright white, medium length hair. I'm not sure if there's anyway to properly describe how many people have had similar, horrific experiences, but let's just say this hospital is one unlucky rich person away from being closed down. If the poor people could afford civil court, the hospital here would be long closed and there would only be the imaging, testing, and therapeutic service available. They need a massive overhaul. This is a desperate plea for help, from a wonderful community. For what it's worth, the Covid policies are also a joke. They do what they have to, and often, not even that. I would love to be proven wrong. I go in with blank expectations every time, hoping this is the time it will be different. People with money travel out of town for medical care, and everyone else here suffers unless of course, they're in good health. Like I said, I'm sure there's some great providers here. Unfortunately, I've yet to have any positive experience setting up an appointment at the clinic, on the phone, or being seen by a provider other than for the walk in clinic, therapeutic services, or imaging services.
So, I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Two doctors, both pushing for tests that are not addressing the issue. Both doctors see that I have good insurance, so they test away. I argued about the tests and they were overlooking what symptoms that I have. Example, sleep study for liver pain, yes this happened. So, this started back in February 2022, I’m worse off and spending way too much money with this place. I’m now going to a completely different hospital, and they are trying to fix what both of the doctors from JCHC have done.
Went in for a broken foot, nurse very friendly put an ice pack on and sent me to xray. NP stood in the doorway and said awe what happened then walked away. I waited in the waiting room after the xray then they sent me to the orthopedic doctor. $200 bill from them for an ice pack. My dad goes in for what we all thought was a sinus infection, she tells him she's seen this be an aneurysm and sends him to the ER for a cat scan and tests. Racks up his bill no insurance and sure enough, it was a sinus infection.
Unfortunately my Mother had to go there again and we had a very bad experience and noticed 2 of the staff do not follow any patient privacy and HIPPA! young lady in front desk was not siting there for over 5 min and then she introduced herself as Heidi or haily and shortly after we were in the room, we heard her talking to another nurse or staff and she addressed her Mom ! about my mother lood that how " ridiculous " is mother's reason concern to come to ER!!! OMG ! IT IS UNBELIEVABLE HOW PEOPLE LIKE HER AND THE STAFF SHARE AND TALK ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS LIKE THAT WITH OTHER PEOPLE IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM WITH DOORS OPEN. very sad and unfortunate Unbelievable!!! It was the worst emergency room staff interaction I have ever seen. I hope the administration takes these seriously. How sad and unprofessional was the interaction.
I was literally told when I called to follow up about my resume and application that the providers wanted someone that lived closer. 1. of all how is that not discrimination? 2. This is real Iowa which is literally the exact words I said in response on the phone to the lady in HR that told me that. 3. How is living outside city limits suddenly cause for dismissal as an applicant? 4. How is this not discrimination? 5. I now have been driving 40 minutes we’ll over the 25 it would have taken me to drive to Fairfield for employment for the last 6 months but you know the salty taste never left my mouth and now that I’m liking to advance I can’t help but say something. Im also tired of complies lien this having some god like power to treat people however they so choose. No wonder people love unions. At least they fight for the employee because god knows the employers these days don’t and I’m die hard Republican. Oh yes now you can use that against me. Good thing I won’t ever apply again nor recommend my dog to Jefferson County. What a horrid thing to disqualify someone for!!!! I’m permanently salty. Yup slang. I’ll add it to my my updated employment profile with Jefferson County. If you choose to disqualify good people on the bias of distance I am curious would you suddenly disqualify a patient that is handing you money over distance?? Asking for a friend. pleasure being disqualified. Thank you loads.
Having my appendix removed lmao pretty pog so far
Will update this soon with more details. Just BE WARNED: if you or a family member is having a mental health crisis, DO NOT GO TO THE ER HERE. It is scary how poorly they handled the situation with my younger sister...lots of misinformation, very unprofessional and incompetent in dealing with mental health crises, which exasperated our situation to a dangerous degree. I think the Sheriff deputy that was called in summed it up pretty well to me when he left, “It’s all under control now...the nurse is calming down”. Have had much better luck with my sister’s mental health issues in Van Buren County at the hospital in Keosauqua, about 20 minutes south—their nurses seem caring and helpful, as opposed to downright angry and hostile. What a nightmare!
Why such a low rating? The misinformation given by emergency room staff at time of admission, which had serious consequences; the neglecting to receive family input at admission, which directly led to prescribing of inappropriate medication; and unresolved issues after multiple letters to the CEO. I then requested to attend the trustees meeting, at which I asked for answers to specific questions raised, and was told by their Chair that she would respond. In her subsequent letter, rather than addressing each issue, she wrote, “I believe the Hospital has fully addressed each of the concerns”—which simply was not true. I responded to her and included a request for copies of relevant Hospital policies but received no reply. The trustees do not have my trust.
Took husband for his blown out knee. Took like 4 hrs. Staff nurses n X-ray tech awesome and the Dr too BUT they don’t have an MRI on site n because he wants to see his surgeon in Des Moines they couldn’t order n MRI here. Dr knew what we needed and wanted as far as MRI and then trying to get X-rays sent to family dr was a joke. Told us we needed to sign release. Why didn’t they have us do that when we were there. Not impressed with this at all. The service was great but won’t go back anytime soon.
